I must disagree!

"Whiskey, gin and brandy
With a glass I'm pretty handy
I'm trying to walk a straight line
On sour mash and cheap wine
So join me for a drink boys
We're gonna make a big noise

So don't worry about tomorrow
Take it today
Forget about the check
We'll get Hell to pay"

All true (not partial) rhymes.

A man's ode to the joys of alcohol-fueled relaxation with his comrades. One of the primary themes of rock music.

Back in Black has no let downs, no experiments gone awry, and one of the most acclaimed production jobs in rock history.

The performances are firey, the song-writing peak AC/DC. In the huge, famous, and popular, and still-surviving genre of Hard Rock, Back in Black is the exemplary album.

So yeah. It's a 10.

This is actually a great answer. I wouldn't put it in my top 100 favorite albums or anything, but it legitimately is such a rock solid album. People here are gonna hate it cause it's popular "dad rock" but it truly is a great record. I do think it deserves a 10, considering how well it accomplishes exactly what it sets out to achieve.

I guess it's cheating to post Floyd since they have so many 10/10s, but this album is a masterpiece in every note that is played.
>>
>>72700599
Is that really 10/10 poetry tho?
Is that on the same level as the other entries in this thread?
Getting drunk with your friends is fun a sense of emotion that can't be compared but AC/DC dont really mention that they just say "lets listen to music and get drunk"

It is not 10/10 poetry - of course not. The lyrical depth is shallow, although I think the lyric-writing, rhymes, phrasing, is good.

But the lyrics fit the music, and vice-versa. A 10/10 album does that.

And you'd be right to say the lack of depth, poetry makes it too easy, common, and won't hit you in the heart.

But Back in Black (indeed, AC/DC) doesn't strive for that, and you can't help but think that they would fail miserably if they tried.

Back in Black is a visceral thrill, and a very fun album. This album is meant for movement - driving (fast) in a car, a (large) party, or head-banging and air-guitar with similarly-thrilled friends. Don't play it sitting at a computer, headphones on, volume midway, and expect to enjoy it.

Aphex Twin has said he doesn't like staying on one idea too long, constantly changing on a track. Some people like this about him, those without attention spans or druggies. Too often he wrecks a good idea by forgoing it in my opinion. I would proffer that his best tracks he does not do this.

Or how about they don't like listening to the same repetitive beat for 10 minutes? The way he's able to evolve tracks and put so many different new layers in each song is what makes him one of the most important producers of all time. In time you'll be able to appreciate it hopefully

you could make a decent argument that S&E is better but i see WZ as an album with more confident and diverse songwriting than anything they previously did. IMO stephen malkmus had come into his own with his song writing at this point, crooked rain was just a stepping stone to WZ

Nah he's right, Louder Than Bombs is easily their best. Its weakest tracks are short, and really not that bad, and are excused by the brilliance of songs like "Ask" and "Unloveable". Normally I wouldn't compare a compilation to a studio album, but because LtB consists entirely of songs not featured on their studio albums, it feels like an album of its own.

Bjork is probably my favourite singer of all time. this is also one of my favourite albums of all time. Vulnicura is a very close second though. Vespertine is also stunning - in fact, all of her albums are great in one way or another. I'd say her and radiohead probably have the best two discographies.

>>72700631

What I like about laughing Stock.

There's nothing else like it. The combination of jazz, krautrock and post rock just sets it worlds apart from other albums. Hollis's vocals are beautifully tender. The lyrics are also incredible, religious and existential at the same time. The production is so meticulous and precise. Its the birth of post rock yet nothing ever topped it within the genre.

Just to defend my argument, I'll explain with an unwarranted wall of text:
“King of Carrot Flowers” is an excellent opener, sets the tone perfectly and seamless transitions to parts 2 and 3, keeping it fresh. Afterwards, the euphoric title track drops and gives the listener the false impression that the album is purely optimistic and happy, so “Two-Headed Boy”s simplistic, stripped-down serenade is an excellent transition to a darker tone, and this tone only gets more depressing by the time "The Fool" segways in, giving us a break from the vocals and instrumentation to contemplate on the record thus far, and shows off the band's overall versatility.
"Holland, 1945" breaks the tension and brings us back to the sunny skies and clear weather, but this vibe quickly dispelled as the “Communist Daughter” clevelry brings us back to a moody, depressing tone in around a minute.
"Oh Comely" capitalizes on this, and soon the listener is enveloped in dread in the album's longest track. After experiencing the harrowing-but-imaginative lyrics from Mangum and over seven minutes of just vocals and the emotive strums of the acoustic guitar, the brass section is cued and ends the track on an abysmally dark note.
After feeling like we've experienced all the group has to offer, "Ghost" graces our ears with an interesting combination of bliss, eerie vibes and urgency. We also hear nearly every instrument used in the album thus far incorporated into an excellent outro, complete with the whimsical singing-saws and emotive horns.
Cue another instrumental, practically the opposite of "The Fool", introducing bagpipes and a fresh sonic mix soon envelops us again, which appropriately leaves us with the final track, "Two-Headed Boy Part 2", effectively tying up all the overarching themes of the LP.

Didn't mean to write a review, but damn do I love this thing.

I knew from the first listen this was something special. It by far has had the best longevity and frequency of play of any album I've listened to.

Boring as fuck. There's absolutely nothing going on. No structure, three notes per song, an annoying whisper throughout the whole thing (supposed to be the vocals), pathetic excuses for "crescendos" that demonstrate the band members have no idea how to create a song. How the hell is this tagged as jazz? or experimental? The only thing it experiments with is breaking the record to see how soon one can fall asleep after listening to the album. There's no way people get anything musically out of listening to this, they have to be pretending. This is pretty much minimalism at its worst.

I am Pink Floyd's # 1 fan. I love all their stuff, including the Syd Barrett years and even the Post waters stuff.. DSOTM is amazing. As is the Division Bell, as is Piper at the gates of dawn...
