Then just listen to that song and "Boy With Thorn in side" and those are pretty much the smiths. MAybe toss in the headmaster ritual and barbarism begins at home from Meat

Literally all of their albums are great. Just listen to them in order.

Normally I wouldn't recommend starting out with a compilation album, but since so many of The Smiths singles weren't on an album it makes sense in this case. Unfortunately, you also get some of the crappy b-sides on the album too, like Golden Lights. Hatful of Hollow is another good one.

I would say start with Queen is Dead or Strangeways. I think those are the best for getting into the Smiths for a new listener.

And yeah, pay attention to the lyrics. Those and Marr's guitar is what makes the songs.

If you like them, listen to some interviews with Morrissey. He is amazing.
