Although his death being murder is more possible than the other cases like this, the circumstances also don't point *away* from suicide. The comment from his producer is a point of view from someone who doesn't really understand bipolar/depression; you can be on top of the world one day and then an argument sets you off and you spiral insanely quickly.

The one thing I don't get about the murder theory is what is Chiba's motive? I guess she could have just snapped in a fit of anger and hastily made it look like a suicide. I have read stories that she seemed very controlling of Elliott. Still, she wasn't married to him so she wasn't entitled to any of his earning. I think she even tried to sue his family for money but the case didn't go anywhere. I remember reading on an old Elliott Smith website (can't remember what it was but it wasn't Sweet Adeline) that someone who lived nearby went by the house a night after his death and saw a van loading stuff into it with a girl that was likely Chiba. I wonder if she was just moving her stuff or taking Elliott's stuff before family and friends could work the situation out. She's acted really shitty about the whole thing, but I don't think that makes her a murderer. She also dated Rivers Cuomo, so it seems she was just an opportunist/gold digger.
