Some might disagree but I feel like Jesu - Conqueror might fight that description of gothic blackgaze
>>72678727
Maybe, though Jesu is more like metalgaze.
>>72678741
This is true, but I feel like with Conqueror specifically there is enough overlap
>>72678758
I think it's more like doomgaze.
>>72678821
Yes and doom is derived from the from gothic aesthic, or they have a common root. Either way its, at the very least, tangentially applicable to the original question
>>72678841
>Yes and doom is derived from the from gothic aesthic
No, it's doom metal, which has a really heavy sound, that what's distinguishes Jesu as one of the pioneers of that style, but it isn't the first time that one of Broadrick's projects was compared to stuff like that. I remember Godflesh once referred to as "The Cure's Pornography on quaaludes."
>>72678358
This first track is not even dream pop, I was expecting shoegaze.
This is if the smashing pumpkins made an EP for an anime.

>This is if the smashing pumpkins made an EP for an anime.
Aren't a few of their songs technically shoegaze though?

Indeed. In the very same vein The Angelic Process founded, pioneered and perfected the genre.
>>72678841
Doom Metal predates Gothic Rock by several years, it's actually the other way around. Many Gothic musicians were influenced and inspired by Doom Metal bands.
>>72684092
>Doom Metal predates Gothic Rock by several years, it's actually the other way around. Many Gothic musicians were influenced and inspired by Doom Metal bands.
Gothic rock and metal didn't really fuse sonically until the late 80s-early 90s. Shoegaze merged with gothic rock prior to that.
Hey, I'm not too familiar with /shugazi/ or shoegaze in general but I stumbled across pic related and really liked it, can anyone recommend similar stuff assuming anyone here as heard it? I've only listened to entry level music from the genre so far like Slowdive and MBV

I keep both versions for a total of three versions. The original, and both the analog and digital tape remastered versions.
The original digital tape remaster sounds almost exactly like the 1991 release, and the analog tape remaster sounds brighter and somewhat harsher, especially on brighter songs such as What You Want. Kevin preferred the digital tape version, so he used it on the 1991 release. I prefer it as well.
>>72677925
Make sure you don't get a glitched copy, or a copy where they mixed up the analog and digital tapes, and mislabeled them...

I'll be there, suuuuuper hype since this is my first time seeing them (couldn't afford Shaky Jews tickets last year)
Currently listening to the opening band, Casket Girls, they're alright. The electronics might translate well live

their first album.
Southpacific deserves to be more heard
Anyone else here listening to HOTT MT's new album Au?

Stay by Airiel is very emotional too. Really incredible song
If Slowdive play that post-rock version of Syd Barrett's "Golden Hair" I'll probably burst into treats in front of everyone there
He did done it now. Anthony needs to stop bullying shoegaze.

I don't know these, but stargaze in general is pretty nice. I adore both Stella Luna's Stargazer and Loop - Heaven's End
>>72717671
I usually only see Drop you vivid colors posted, so I figured I share that. Sakura Swirl has some of their most beautiful songs on it. Rarely see that album talked about.
>>72723185
thank you so much
>>72721167
I'm normally fine with him having opinions I disagree with because he usually at least backs up what he says and explains why he feels that way
But with this one he just rambles about "muh production" and uses ridiculous adjectives to the point of self-parody.
The Gas album review was some fuck shit as well.
I feel like he's trying to move more into conventional trendhopping pop coverage, 90% of his higher scores now are garbage trap and pop or p4k indie, he doesn't do much experimental music outside of the absolute essentials anymore.
Shoegaze fucking sucks.

Aren't they two guys part of another band, like this is a side project from that band?
what band is it?
>>72720065
What a show
They weren't as loud as I expected but some of the noise sections still kicked my ass. Catch the Breeze, Golden Hair, and 40 Days were highlights IMO. Rachel sounded a lot better than she did on the album, glad she still sang a lot because I was worried she'd just be awkwardly standing there for long periods.
Casket Girls were great too, I wasn't sure what to think at first but they definitely won me over.
in pavement's range life video, steve west wears a rollerskate skinny shirt

i missed out on most of last years music. anybody have a bestof /shugazi/ 2016 to share? cheers
>>72720378
Late as fuck, but I had already listened to 33 before posting. Both are pretty good. Shame they never put anything else out.
>>72723240
I'll give them a look. Thanks anon.
>>72723456
>I usually only see Drop you vivid colors posted, so I figured I share that.
I imagine it's thanks to chart exposure. Some only really go as far as charts show them without further exploring discogs.
I personally don't have any strong opinions on Luminous Orange's discogs because I haven't really sat down and really taken in their releases individually.
lmao do you guys actually like the new Slowdive
Give this one a go guys

Happening
>>72737768
>lack of room for innovation
People always say this but I feel like there's a pretty broad spectrum of music that falls under shoegaze at this point (especially if you include dream pop).
The two main progenitors of shoegaze (Cocteau Twins and The Jesus and Mary Chain) sound nothing alike. It's not as all encompassing as other genres, but it is a subgenre at the end of the day.
More like this? I really love souvlaki space station
>>72739443
Fuck
>>72656545
Does anybody have links to either the new Ambersmoke or No Joy? Not finding either one on the archive or on rutracker
https://www.thewire.co.uk/in-writing/interviews/unedited-broadcast
why did trish talk like she's on acid 24/7
every shoegaze band sounds exactly the same
>>72741187
i wish
>>72737267
I love it when there's a lot going on in the guitar/noise walls.
I hate it when the melody is bland.
bmup
>>72662455
Absolutely not. There are audible flaws on some of the tracks. Like out of place beeping.
>>72712336
git gud scurb
