I used to fucking love Devin Townsend. I thought the albums he made during his battle with bipolar disorder and depression and the contrast that led between his solo material and Strapping Young Lad were brilliant. However after Strapping Young Lad stopped being a thing, Devin stopped using drugs and stopped being depressed his music became pretty boring and bland to me. Ki was ok and I used to listen to that album alot, but I really felt betrayed by Addicted. I don't want to say that pop metal is shit, but that album truly was really bad pop metal. After that I haven't looked Devy's material the way I used to. Obviously it is very good for him that he isn't battling with depression and got rid of drugs, but I feel his material was better before that.

A musician can mindlessly tap away at the notes written on piece of sheet music just like a typist can mindlessly tap away on a keyboard while taking dictation, there's no artistic sensibility at work (or required) at all. Once again you've managed to make yourself sound like a complete fucking idiot.

The only thing he's thumbing his nose at is good taste, sincerity, and any shred of integrity. The thing is he's knows his music is shit and that's exactly why he does it. It's a defense mechanism, an attempt to keep criticism of his work at arms length because he's intelligent enough to understand that fact and it pains him deeply. Like I said, I feel bad for the guy. Plus he's ugly as shit to boot which doesn't help.

Also, Devin's acclaim doesn't stem from his "compositional strength" (lmao) it comes almost exclusively comes from his troglodyte dweeb army who's pathetically living vicariously though him. His work is actually compositionally weak (which he obviously understands), hence his "le goofy XD" diversion tactic. I mean, even Devin agrees with me on this one, that's how sound the argument is.

Is this ironic? I always have a hard time identifying irony for some reason. To be honest you don't seem very bright, mindless almost. That's probably par for the course as far as Devin Townsend fans are concerned though so I shouldn't really be surprised, I guess.

That's where some of his fan base stepped off, and I can see how if you like his more dark, depressing, and manic side (I still go back to City and Alien because they're great albums) but I think he only alienated that fan base because he was honest with himself. He got over addiction, got help, and felt a lot better so for him to make that music again it would be forced and not sound genuine at all. Personally I prefer his DTP releases, but it's a matter of preference.

If you don't like the styles he has explored more recently (also I really liked Ki, Casualties of Cool may be worth checking out if you haven't looked into any of his stuff since) then you just don't like it and that's completely fair criticism. I've definitely had that happen to me with other musicians in the past, and it kinda sucks, so I can relate. For whatever reason though, outside of a few albums, most of Devin's work has continued to resonate with me.

No, it's absurd to claim that isn't often the case. An autobiography would be based on a personal recollection which would *at best* be an extremely flawed version of actual events. Unintentional fabrications are still fabrications which would be the best case scenario when it comes to any experience being discussed in an autobiography.
