He's the closest thing to be honest. I can't think of any authors who embrace the funky/sexy style without ever replacing their musicianship.

I'm not saying he's the equivalent, but probably the closest thing. Maybe Trent Reznor, but the same old scenario applies.

it's early but i can see him eclipse prince desu

D'angelo is as close as you'll get today. Not nearly as prolific but all three of his studio records are great.
