worth the same?
idk what you're trying to say, but i'll say this

i bought a strat because i wanted one, the only tweaks i've done to it so far is go from a 5 way to a 3 way switch, and wire the pickups in a "vintage" schematic.
why? because i wanted to. it's the way i like it. all these fa/gg/ots that talk smack on fendurr and everything else i like can go to hell, i don't care what they think about my gear, it's "worth it" to me. that's not to say i think everything else is shit, but if i'm going to play something, it's going to be MY strat

>>72623960
it looks nice, but there's no way in hell i'd pay that price. the seller is trying to make it sound like it's some rare piece that is in high demand on the market. paint job looks neat, neck itself looks in great condition, frets don't look messed up.
talk the price down, sure it's custom so i'd pay $300 max. otherwise, fuck that
>>
>>72624052
Yeah I guess I'm memeing myself.
I really like it so I'll try to talk it down otherwise fuck the guy
>>
>>72624093
try it, if that doesn't work make it yourself. it'll turn out cheaper than buying the neck

any tips on getting down unison bends?
how does string thickness play in?

i can only seem to get it somewhat right at or around the 12th fret. i suppose its easier to bend there as its in the middle.

thanks
>>
>>72624394
unison bends?
>>
Is it worth it to buy the Staytrem bridge for my VM Jazzmaster?

Never really had a problem with strings slipping or the screws or anything but I wish the tone was a little better and the high E string has always been kinda buzzy and shitty sounding.
>>
>>72624394
>>72624417

the key to a unison bend is to have the two notes be in the same key, do it in thirds cuz, it's beginner tier stuff but it works so well

No, that's the standard open d major. On the g string at the 2nd fret you're playing an A. The notes in the d major chord are D F# A. The open A is obviously an A, so it fits in the chord. The chord would actually be called D/A if you included. D over A. Yoi can use either or deoending on setting, I use D/A a lot in live settings to fill in the sound.

Anyone who dismisses Buckethead as a shredder hasn't listened to him and can be ignored.
>>
>>72628235
Like i said it depends on what's going on. He busts ass too, but if he's doing something in higher registers I'll add something more than a standard chord. Like adding a low 5th on a barred 5 string minor 7. I don't think any of our horns can hit any notes in my lower register either. I don't know brass or woodwinds though.

>>72628273
All things in due time, walk before you crawl, yadda yadda. I didn't even bother learning any theory til about 4 months after I started playing. I had been doing percussion for 10 years already so I knew a decent amount as musical notation goes, I just had to learn how notes fit together.

I never went through his lessons, but what really helped me were method books at first. And after that I would just listen to a ton of music, and whenever something got my interest I would focus on it. Yardwork, work(if your company allows it or you can sneak it), cleaning, running errands, having freinds over, any chance y9u have try listening to something new outside of your comfort zone. John Mayer doesn't interest me in the least, but he has great pop sensibilities so I've been listening to him a lot to sharpen up on that. I've also been listening to a lot of tower of power because their horn orchestration is pretty cool, i was never good at writing counter melodies. I've also been listening to a lot of 90s hip hop because the grooves are so tight. None of the projects I'm working on sound anything like those.

Basically I'm just trying to say theory is only part of the battle, knowledge of different concepts/techniques as well as large bank of existing musical ideas are both just as important if you don't want tonspund like a robot.

Run through the lessons as they are, you might skip something important. Like you were talking about accidentally hitting strings, he may have an excercise in one his lessons that will break you of that. Learn to be methodical when it comes to music and it becomes so much easier.
>>
>>72628481
I actually prefer his acoustic albums like Colma. the thing is he has such a ridiculously huge discography that its really easy for good songs of his to get lost in the mix with all the weird shit. i find myself picking out maybe 1 in every 20 songs of his that i really like and bother learning how to play

One day I'll combine all the ones I think are good.

No recordings released yet for them(aside from live). And I'd rather keep publicity low because they're not my projects, I'm not the band leader.

It's basically a group of about 12 different people. A lot of it is based on availability. One guitar player(me), one bassist, one keyboardist(typically bandleader), horns, one sax player who's always there, 3 drummers with 1 being the preferred guy, 3 singers, another key player when the main guy is singing most of the set, and we have a dude that comes and plays hand percussion just because. We used to play with a rapper sometimes but he was paying hs out of pocket and he never got on.

The main projects are
Event band(moolah)
Key player's neo soul stuff
1 singer's r&b project(think lauryn hill)
1 singer's alt rock project(modern rock bullshit, but we vibe to it)
1 singer's funk group(think p funk)
Jam group
>>
>>72628716
>>72629250
The jam group is the most fun. Main drummer is incredible, I'e never played with anyone like him. He does all kinds of crazy polyrhythms and tempo modulation and all kinds of other shit. I almost quit week 1 because I couldn't keep up, but I kicked it with the bassist and he convinced me to stay.

It's cool, we're not trying to break the mold but we're not trying to sound like anyone else. And they all talk shit like crazy, coming from the hood and blue collar work I was in it based on that. It's all love, but there's hardly a conversation that goes by where we don't laugh our asses off.

But i can't post anything because all the "songwriters" are working on deals with small labels or working up their own promotion campaigns for when they finally self release.

I enjoy it, I don't expect to break through even though the other people do. But there is a ton of creative freedom on my end and there's anywhere from 4 to 5 projects running at a single time so it keeps me on my toes. I work 6 to 5 everyday, we practice 6 to midnight 3 days a week, so that's brutal.

We may be losing our main drummer though, he just got a contract to 30 days in the pit for a broadway musical. Dude deserves it though, he grinds. I was fucking around in his studio one day and he practiced the entire 8 hours I was there.

Don't limit yourself to 4 measures for a progression. Try 8 or 16. Let's say you go for 8. A really common progression is Am G F Em(or major for that harmonic minor/spanish feel). Instead of measure 3 for the F(halfway of 4) let's put it on 5(halfway for 8). Now let's break it down, a basic progression for 4 chords over 8 bars will give each chord 2 bars. Lets onky give the 1st and 3rd chord 2 bars while giving the 2nd and 4th only 1. That leaves 2 measures(measure 4 and 8) empty. Find a chord or chords that sound good leading into the next.

That's basically what he's doing. The beginning and midle points of phrases infuence the the way it sounds a lot. In this instance the first measure determines tonality, and the halfway gives a slight resolution to the tension he created. After the halfway point he builds back to the tonal chord.

I could explain better but one of my buddies just told us he's having his first kid so I just took 2 shots to the head.

Alright niggers, I've reached a point in my playing where I'm really good. Like, better than any other guitarist I know personally.
I have the top tier guitar. A few of them, actually.

Now I need the amp. I'm either going to get a Bogner Uberschall or a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier.

Who here knows anything about either and has some experience with them?

Leave Rob Scallon alone

You sound like a troll... but i'm going to unironically reply and cast a vote for the Uberschall.

Never liked the sound of the high gain Boogies.
>>
>>72634107
Not a troll at all. I've got about 4 thousand dollars worth of guitar and 12 years experience playing.

But I'm still rocking a solid state combo. Up till about 6 months ago I had a Spider IV combo.
I just don't know anything about amps but what I know I like and what the guitarists I like and want to sound like play.

It's between an Engl, Mesa Boogie and Bogner. But I don't know shit about amps.
>>
>>72632007
I can resell it but that doesn't solve my problem
Is there anything else I can/should do to improve it or find an upgrade that isn't gonna be super expensive?

I layer multiple amps, but my main high-gain amp is a Triple Rec. Don't really like it. It's got 3 channels, and yeah the low-gain channel is definitely different from the other two. But it sounds bad for a clean channel, and weird and vague (muddy and muffled low-gain sound) when in "push" mode.. And the two higher-gain channels don't sound different enough to really consider them two separate channels.

I've ended up using a Classic 50 or a Reverberocket for mid-gain middy-rhythm sounds and relying on the Triple Rec only for highest-gain sounds. And the two high-gain channels are only differentiated in volume for rhythm vs solo.

has anyone bought one of those meme acrylic guitars for like 130 bucks from a chinese site

What's a good mic for bass amps?
All I have is an SM57 and a Heil PR20, neither of which are suitable.

65 reissue jaguar Pickups are pretty cheap, about $100 for both.

Give me one good reason why I shouldn't sell my two guitars and use the money towards getting a 2000 dollar head for an amp?

How much do these go for now, believe its a 40th anniversary thing?

My dad got one when they came out, wonder if it was a good investment or not.
>>
>>72636482
>My dad got one

Yeah, I bet he did. And I bet he plugs his 120th anniversary Les Paul through it and plays Lynyrd Skynyrd all fucking day too.

Here's a real problem for once:

There are FIVE (!) cables going into/from my amp when it should be only one.

1. Guitar input (im thinking about getting wireless system)
2. Footswitch Y-cable for the amp channel select (im using my pre-amp distortion)
3. two cables from pedalboard for the amp effects loop

I could lose literally 4 cables if i would buy an overdrive pedal and would only play the guitar through the pedalboard into the clean amp, but whats the point of having a tube amp if you dont use the tube gain?

How many cables do you all use?
>>
>>72636608

No really, I am genuinely curious. I can try and find the # card thing

Even if you just clean boost, it's going to clip the preamp. Your dirt boxes are feeding into a compressed preamp or more likely a compressed and clipping preamp. It's not as though you can run your big muff into the house PA and have a good sound. If you have effects that don't do well before distortion, then some of those cables are going to stay. I'd probably think about a cable snake.

You know you can turn the reverb off on those amps, right? You just turn the knob one way or the other until you can't hear it anymore.
