How did punk die?

With pop punk probably. Although Dookie is actually pretty good, and American Idiot to a lesser extent, bands like Blink-182 killed it I think.

It became too formulaic, safe and sterile. Punk itself never died, but Punk as it was formerly known as certainly did.

Anything that rises as shit can live for long. Punk was always bad but at least it was new back then.
