Pretty good general knowledge really, obviously with favorite categories and weak spots of course, p confident though.

Grew up in their hometown, went to their shows all the time in high school and college, and over the last year witnessed them "make it". I know pretty much everything about them and their music, but they don't have a huge discography so I guess that's not a huge feat

I'm the guy that did a 32 page Royal Trux - Twin Infinitives review/trip journal.

I've collected 40 live concert bootlegs of their shows. 1990 - 2000

I own doubles of all Trux's albums on Vinyl AND Cassette. Even paying up to $100 for a Twin Infinitives cassette.

I'm on casual online friend level with multiple journalists who've interviewed the band back then, people who ran the Pink Hearts Society, various Drag City employees who've recorded side instruments for Trux albums, 90s concert tapers.

I saw Trux at their SXSW reunion at Hotel Vegas this year, after buying Levitation Festival tickets primarily to see them too.

If you want something that's a bit more straight forward hip-hop there's his solo album The Fantastic Kill that's p dope and a lot of people don't talk about it because Max Normal is as far back as they go.
There's also The Original Evergreen which was a group he fronted before Max Normal and doesn't really play into his narratives at all.

>what is your favorite album in that genre and why
Probably Fantasma (Cornelius). It introduced me to shibuya-kei, for one. It's playful, creative, and colorful as all hell. It's probably the most adventurous shibuya-kei album that doesn't stray too far from its roots. I feel like everything after Fantasma (e.g. Point, Sensuous) --while absolutely stellar in production, arranging, performance, and all that-- represent styles that are more unique to Cornelius himself rather than shibuya-kei. Fantasma's just a real trip, and it stands out immensely while still representing all the other corners of the genre.
>and what are some albums you'd consider essential
1. Cornelius - Fantasma
2. Fantastic Plastic Machine - The Fantastic Plastic Machine
3. Pizzicato Five - Happy End of the World / Overdose (can't decide)
4. Cibo Matto - Stereo Type A
5. Takako Minekawa - Roomic Cube
6. Buffalo Daughter - Captain Vapour Athlete
7. Flipper's Guitar - Doctor Head's World Tower
8. Towa Tei - Big Fun
9. Lamp - 東京ユウトピア通信
10. Katamari Damacy - Katamari Fortissimo Damacy (not a band, though heavy shibuya-kei influence is present)

You probably already know all of these (maybe not Lamp), but they're definitely all important releases.
*BONUS RECS: Rip Slyme - Five, METAFIVE - META, bo en - Pale Machine

sorry for late response, but there are a couple good starting points
stereobird.com is a forum that clay parton (one of the guitarists from the band, basically everything he makes sounds like duster) runs. he's uploaded various demos and the "on the air" recording which i'm sure you've heard to this site. tip: the sign up feature is broken. when you sign up, it doesn't send you an e-mail, so you have to use a legit email address, and use the forgotten password feature, which actually sends the email.
there is also a /dust/ discord server which isn't particularly active although discussion spikes up sporadically.
here's a pastebin with some more info and links to their complete discography, side projects, band photos, and a link to the discord server.

They have another great full length album in Meridian, two stellar EPs (& and Mixtape 2), and one older EP that's good but not up to par with the rest (Mixtape 1). I would say check out Meridian first, it really holds up to Cardinal IMO and has some absolute classics. If you liked that, I'd say check out & and then Mixtape 2, and go from there. Their whole catalog is up for name your price on bandcamp.

They also have an excellent live album with Audiotree that's arguably their best recorded work (don't bother with Elsewhere, it's the worse live album). Not sure where to put that in terms of their discography but it's definitely worth a mention.

i didn't make this btw. it was made by topher, who is the admin of the server and has put a shitton of work into it.

You know that includes European and Latin ska right ?
>>

Not him but try Amp and Cul de Sac (you've probably heard them though)

Xiu Xiu
I have lots of bootlegs and listen to all those stupid bandcamp albums. I have a collection of some great love stuff 2002-2006 if anyone's interested
>>
>>72619379
What s a good starting point to start with them ? Three most accessible albums?
>>
>>72619421
If you're into noise and industrial start with Knife Play, A Promise, Fag Patrol and Chapel of the Chimes. If you like synthpop start with Fabulous Muscles and The Air Force. After you listen to all of those, check out La Foret. You can pretty much skip their stuff from 2008-2012 but everything before and after that is worth hearing.

Probably Ween, considering that I put together that compilation of every unreleased tape and demo out there that people use to get into demos and was responsible for more than 5 people knowing that Honeycomb demos even existed.

Thats the whole anthology, honeycomb (what little we have of it) and its info are in the demos and tapes section.

I'd reccomend browsing the rest of the collection though, theres a lot of stuff most people dont have.

Imo inspector's alma en fuego is probably the best latin ska album front to back ( there's varying number of songs depending on region release) or maldita vecindad's first two albums . Too bad they became too self aware and it's dead now .

Fusion stuff like king chango is up there, too.

This was a pretty brilliant thread idea, OP.

People who are experts on something like to flex that muscle and answer questions. Great way for people who want to get into a specific genre, artist -just ask the experts.

They are not. The people who usually say that are the people who only come to listen to their three big hits. When I saw them, they were outgoing and interacted with the audience a bunch. They picked someone from the crowd to play the cowbell from Your Life is Lie, and they flied a drone during Alien Days.

I feel like I'm a expert on Gorillaz, ever since 9/11 I was fascinated in their music and how it so perfectly captured my life and how it was so inpactful and respectable on it's topics. It's also the love I have for the characters and story arcs it's so fascinating.

top grime albums not from Wiley or Skepta?
>>
>>72627915
I guess I might prefer the Steve era, but pretty much all of it is good shit, besides their cover albums imo, but I've never been big on cover albums at all.

My favorites, beside the obvious TSB and Yoshimi, from them are probably Zaireeka and In a Priest Driven Ambulance. When I first started listening, I wasn't big on Oh My Gawd and other early stuff, but it's all grown on me now
