Hate Elliot Smith. All I can think when I listen to him is that the guy desperately needs help, not to have his mental sickness celebrated.
>>72601165
I believe it's from the liner notes of the 40th anniversary release of the album.
>>72599045
>Elliott Smith
>simplistic
How do you fuck up this bad?

i fell in love with elliott smiths songs, but had to stop listening. it brought me in a new depressional phase.
>>72602314
Pretentious "indie" rock/"chamber pop" hybrid with terrible vocals
>>72603717
Bad lyrics. If you think the lyrics are good you're fooling yourself honestly.

>>72604544
discogs probably has it, can't imagine it'd be cheap though - on vinyl, at least.
>>72604601
Yeah, the vinyl is pretty ridiculous. CD's isn't too bad though. Does the band have a place I can get a digital download? I'd like to support them but I can't find anywhere.
I'm pretty sure the band broke-up though.
>>72599285
Too eclectic for it's own good, kind of "tuneless"
>>72600849
shit lyrics, shit production on half the tracks

Suffers from prog cheesiness at times
>>72603164
Rather boring at times
>>72604082
The first track is miles better than any other song on there
>>72604657
yeah they disbanded in 2010, and apparently the lead singer (mariko gotou) quit the music industry entirely last year
as for digital download, i have no idea
>>72604691
Looks like I'll just grab a CD from Discogs then. Thanks.

It was just him dicking around with a loop pedal, Returnal was the true apex of his early works.
>>72604854
my nigga
>>72604889
i love returnal too it's also 10/10 for me
pic related
>>72599061
This would have been flawless had it stopped at Mercy Mercy Me. The latter half isn't bad, just unneeded if taken as a whole work.
>>72604476
I can't stand that Little Red Robin Hood Hit the Road ends in a fade, or at least the proper song before the bagpipes. I know this sounds like a BS critique given that every song on this album ends on a fade out. However, everything preceding the last song feels properly concluded whereas LRRHHtR ends on a drum frenzy before the bagpipes kick in jarringly. My only complaint on this masterpiece.
>>72605128
It's fair criticism but I personally don't see the ending fade as that much of an issue.
Ascension is one of my favorite albums as well.

>>72604082
>>72604970
These are all 10's.
>>72605128
I actually agree with you on What's Going On. If they would've taken the "mother" reprise and put it after Mercy Mercy Me and end there it could've been pristine.
The genre itself doesn't count as a flaw
>>72599027
I love that album but the percussion sounds so goofy
>>72599276
This is my favorite album of all time, and I believe that it would not be as good without Last Dance and Homesick, mostly because they give it better flow
>>72604223
this DESU
>>72602314
Only ten tracks long and Wake Up isn't the closing song.
>>72604789
Sounds a bit dated now, like you can tell it was recorded in 1992.
Very comfy album though.
>>72602917
Again, comfy but dated. I do love Alone + Easy Target though.
>>72603164
Fitter Happier
>>72605811
It isn't the Mishima soundtrack.
>>72604256
That's blindly dismissive, not a valid criticism. >>72605869
Eh, In the Backseat works well as a closer. I do wish their other albums were of the same caliber as Funeral. Closest thing IMO is their debut EP.
good luck lads
>>72602917
What do you think of There is Nothing Left to Lose? Favorite Foo album for me.

>>72603164
Thom's whiny sounding vocals are hit or miss.
>>72607592
Lyrics are meh. Rattled by the Rush is kind of a boring song. Pavement's earlier shit is better IMO.
>>72607760
I can't really think of a good criticism for this one.
>>72607760
You win
>>72607518
Not that guy but what do like about it because I really like their first two albums but that one doesn't click with me
>>72605976
there is not a single one, friend. my pick goes to english settlement
>>72601884
personally i feel their lyrics can be really weak and repetative and their stories go no where
>>72608159
I mean I'm not sure, with a lot of things in music it's hard to say exactly why I like it, I just do. I guess one of my favorite aspects is that it's a little more experimental and broad in terms of scope than some of their other earlier albums (Not that they weren't, it just feels like TINLTL is a roller coaster, and in a good way). Part of it is also nostalgia, I guess, Learn to Fly was the first Foo Fighters song I fell in love with and so I really did start with that album, so it has a special place in my heart.
>>72599276
Huh I liked last dance
