Hi /mu/ - as you can see I'm not exactly up to date. I listen to what the more polite among you would probably call 'dadcore' and the less polite, just 'plebian'.
Based on this snapshot of what I listen to could you recommend modern music I might like? Even if you bring me into the 1990s I'd be impressed, the most modern stuff I listen to is all electronic.

Probably should have seen that coming.

Destroyer: Kaputt, Streethawk: A Seduction, and Destroyer's Rubies

By the way, I decided to give it another shot. It's still fucking truly terrible.

Good guitar, irritating lyrics, awful sound production.

In your case -- though you'll probably have heard them already if you've listened to pretty much anything from the 21st century -- I'd recommend Arcade Fire. Especially their first three albums (quality-wise I'd say Funeral=The Suburbs > Neon Bible). Their fourth (Reflektor) is also pretty good as well though.
Cheers for the suggestions so far. Any recommendations on where to start with Mars Volta?

Honestly, I've heard of them but don't know anything about them, will give them a shot cheers.

I've not yet tried the others but I am surprised quite how much I am enjoying Arcade Fire, I normally really struggle to get into modern rock music but I am loving this. Cheers anon.

I thought only Argentine hippies were into that bullshit

I'm Scottish by the way, someone here recommended Onda Vaga (possibly you?) and I enjoyed it enough to keep it in the library with plans to listen to more. Any recommendations?
