What are some songs/albums/lyricists with lyrics good enough to be analyzed in a college-level literature class?
For example I like the lyrics of pic related, but I don't think they deserve to be taught alongside stuff like T.S. Eliot, Edgar Allan Poe, William Blake etc
Father John Misty
Highway 61 Revisited (not BoB)
GKMC
Closer
that's about it

I agree the chainsmokers deserve having their song analysed in college
I love this album and think the lyrics are clever and relatable but are they really that smart?

i never liked the lyrical themes of that album, drawing references in disparate art/media and linking them via psychedelic imagery. that's what many people like about it, but I don't happen to think it was a very good idea, just one that was executed very well.
i guess if i were on the other side of the fence i would want students to know about it, and many current academics actually do anyway

I suppose that makes sense. I do agree that Highway 61 was superior, at least lyrically.
