On the one hand, Burzum fans are pretty well-versed in music. It's not like he's super obscure, but the fanbase is mostly people who are pretty conversant on metal and have some reasonably smart things to say (compared to the average).

On the other hand, Burzum completely fucking sucks. It's just bad.


So what we have is a contingent of people who have rationalized to themselves in some manner to become a fan. Some of them like the political baggage associated with him. Some of them like the edginess. And some of them will just insist he's some kind of compositional genius, even though he, in fact, sucks.

Yeah, probably. But to give Varg some credit, his music is very important and influential to the black metal scene and there's nothing really political about the music itself.

But yeah, no one on /mu/ would care about it if it wasn't for the murder and Nazi shit.
