i feel like everyone is just pissy that the new album has a bunch of features and barely any solo songs. i think a good number of the new songs are good on their own right.

It makes me sick. Gorillaz went from being the project that made me realize how important music is in my life on the whole to a project thats just produced some of the ugliest and laziest music I've heard in ANY genre. This is a blatant insult to the fans that have supported Albarn from day 1.

If the US tour is gonna be mlstly these songs I'm fucking walking out, theres no amount of visuals that can save this foul cashgrab.

Its so blatantly obvious that he slopped together all the instrumentals in a single day, then just had a revolving door of mostly literally whos just come and wing it. There was clearly no plan or direction, everyone was freestyling but theres this creepy vibe to most of the vocal performances, as if he was standing next to the booth and shaking his head "no" whenever their feeestyle started going in a direction he didn't approve of. It seems like for some reason he dodn't want anything even resembling sexual or political vibes.

Take Out of Body for example, it could have easily worked had he let her get sensual with it, but instead she ends up faltering and it ends up sounding lime a fucking nursery rhyme. Its so fucking bizzare and the whole thing has me legitmately worried about Albarn's mindstate.

I was never a big fan of them when I was growing up, but later I still was really impressed with Plastic Beach. But it was overproduced.

Also, I think the first album is pretty overrated, and Demon Days doesn't sound much better than Humanz in my opinion.

Anyone else kind of bummed out that they didn't do a new kind of album art for HUMANZ?

The Demon Days/Let It Be callback was nice, but every album cover preceding this one had its own distinct look (Gorillaz, Demon Days, Plastic Beach, etc.) so it would have been nice for this one to have a distinct image as well.

I didn't think he felt out-of-place at all, his style is perfect for Gorillaz. It's the "we wuz kangs" rappers that ruin this album.

Lack of Damon, lack of Hewlit's art, lack of interesting instrumentation and a lack of clever lyrics. This album could have been great if he cut out most of the songs. Cut the interludes, cut basically most of the songs, cut some of the features, have more of Damon's vocals, rewrite the lyrics to Let Me Out to be a less blunt, and bam, you get an album that's at least as good as Plastic Beach. The good songs I think are really good, but it's mostly forgettable garbage and even the good songs have basically no fucking Damon.

The Plastic Beach approach worked once, if anything this is trying to use the 'formula' again to diabolic results. Think how Green Day kept trying to make American Idiot over and over, when you start with something that was only decent the duplicates end up abhorrently bad. The world was ready for another self-titled, just all the Gorillaz doing their thing, not more Albarn friendwank.

Hewlett got WAY more artwork on display for this phase of Gorillaz than previously. He was almost a complete non-factor for Plastic Beach and the fact that he wasn't involved was enough to piss him off and quit the band. He's got way more creative control for Humanz. It'd be easier to just admit you don't like the idea for the album cover.

Also you're not going to get a bunch of Gorillaz music videos because they're getting increasingly expensive as fuck to make. Saturnz Barz cost them $800k to make and was only doable because YouTube paid for it. EMI pulled the plug for Plastic Beach after the On Melancholy Hill video. We're probably not getting any more music videos since they're already working at a TV show.

Same, I feel like as a whole the album isn't great, but when you start looking at the tracks there's actually a lot to love. It's just too cluttered with unnecessary interludes and songs that could have easily been scrapped. This album should have been 12/15 songs long and it would have been much better.
