You guys are not experiencing this album properly. Anyone who talks poorly of this album is either being a massive contrarian or just has shit tastes. Try this before you run your mouths, kiddos. Imagine the album is like a giant tower where there's a party on every floor, and you and the 2D Gorillia are riding the elevator up to the top and then back down. You stop on each floor and it's like there's a different party going on haha. Sometimes 2D joins you but sometimes not it doesn't really matter, you just have to let the party flow threw you and live in the moment lol. tfw when Gorillaz just dropped the best conceptual album of the last 25 years on you and you don't even know it.

Started liking the album more when I think of the album as a progression through a party tower by elevator along with 2D. Every song is a different floor with different shit going on. Sometimes 2D joins in, sometimes he's just hanging back with you.

Songs like Andromeda and Ticker Tape are like breathers, or stepping out onto a balcony.
Busted and Blue is like a last depressing breath of fresh air before you head back in to the insanity.

Songs like Carnival and Sex Murder Party are really crazy, lots of alcohol, drugs and general degeneracy.
Imagine Sex Murder Party as coming down from a crazy cocaine high with a massive hangover.
Have you ever been so fucked up, you begin to get scared? That's Carnival.

The bonus tracks are like the after party.
The song Out Of Body I find funny. Imagine coming off the elevator to a dark room where a bunch of people are doing some Satanic worship led by some slut. Then at the end, 2D is drunk and high and encouraged by everyone to sing and dance.

Last track Circle of Friendz, a bunch of drunk asses sitting around after the party is over yelling "MAH CIRCLE OF FRAAAAAANDZZZZ!"

This is retarded, I love pretty much everything else Gorillaz have done, but this album was such a let down. I gave it a good shot, and while some songs are solid, so many fucking suck. The album is over all really bland and uninspired, and just a mess. I was looking forward to quite a few tracks (the De La Soul one in particular) and they just let me down so much. The lyrics are such shit on so many songs. Even ignoring how little 2D is featured on this, the songs just aren't good. I give it a 4.5/10

I'm enjoying it for the same reason I enjoy other Gorillaz works. The features are fun, it's silly but catchy, and I don't give a fuck about whatever politics an artist gets into.

Andromeda is one of my favorite Gorillaz songs ever, regardless of how uncreative or unoriginal it is.

Sometimes seems like people on this board are more worried about whether or not they SHOULD love an album than whether or not they do.

But which one, anon? Each 'floor' is it's own separate party. Ergo the main problem: This isn't an album. It's a collection of a bunch of different people's takes on exactly the same song idea. It's a compilation playlist of dissimilar takes of the same song - NOT a cohesive album with a flow to it.

I'd argue there kind of is a flow, anon. But it's a bit more ephemeral and more "grouped" than previous Gorillaz albums (which let's be frank, have never had really had "spectacular" flows outside of maybe Demon Days). Ascension to Charger is when things are exciting, fresh and fun and when the guests are most prevalent. Andromeda / Busted and Blue is the introspective part of it when you take a break to reflect on why you're here. Carnival to She's My Collar is when the party gets destructive and toxic, and note it's also the part where 2-D/Damon (arguably the audience POV) gets more involved in the tracks. Hallelujah Money to We Got The Power is a tragic comedown but also a bit of a victory proclamation for the future.

That's at least how I read the flow and it's more enjoyable of a listen for me when I think of it that way. I admit I might be reading into things that aren't there but again, to me that's the sense I get from most "narrative flows" that people extrapolate from Gorillaz projects.
