This is a metalcore band (One of my favorites actually). The music videos and lyrics of her newer stuff can be kind of edgy. However, it's a beautiful woman singing about sex, blood, etc (again, this is only in her newer stuff). It really feels primal to listen to and gets me pumped every time. All of her albums are great in my opinion. Make sure that you listen to some of her newer stuff and also some of her older stuff. Find out which you like better (if not both) and just stick with that. For older (pre 2012), I prefer A Star-Crossed Wasteland. For newer (2012 and up), I prefer Blood.

Back in 2012 she tried to go full generic pop by creating the abomination Electra Heart.

She worked with Dr. Luke and the biggest songwriters and producers in mainstream pop, creating the most generic, bland and lazy sellout pop album of the 2010's.

Let me enlighten you.

After TFJ her label saw hugr potential in her. She had great looks, a good personality, a beautiful voice etc.

Then after she wanted to work on her second album her label made her work with all of those people so she could gain more popularity. Shes usually working on everything and has an immense influence on her work. But with eh only thing she did was getting the instrumentals and write lyrics nothing more. She was also made to write about very selected things so her fanbase could grow as she's appealing to a new audience. So she wrote lyrics she couldn't identify herself with. Mainly bitchy lyrics portraying herself as a whore. Since that has nothing to do with herself she created the alt persona Electra so people wouldnt say that Marinas a whore. She once said that she got extremly depressed and unhappy working on EH and was always acting fake.

So while working on EH she started working on FROOT she began with writing lyrics and making some instrumentals and after she was done with the EH era she got herself a good producer and made FROOT. Have you ever listened to Happy? Its basically her saying that she was unhappy while working on EH and that it was depressing and hurting her etc.

FROOT never was a filler it was more likely an album she had to make for herself
