Da Y Dream Nation? released by hip-hop outfit Son Ic Yo'uth
In all honestly Radiohead were probably the last relevant rock band. I'd say Kid A killed rock music

What's the appeal of Sonic Youth? I feel like I'm missing something crucial, and just need to know. Their music just isn't anything special to me. Nothing I have ever listened to from them (I've heard EVOL, Sister, Daydream Nation, Goo, and Washing Machine) has ever particularly caught my attention. It seems all of their songs sound exactly the same. I know this is all too common of an opinion, but Teen Age Riot really is their only good song.

They reinvented the use of the electric guitar as a sound tool and practically codified indie/alternative rock on Daydream Nation, doing so with a level of compositional sophistication that hasn't really been matched since.
