From bitchin retro Hi Fi to junky junk sloppy set ups to Goodwill amalgamations, all are welcome. Feel free to also post dream hardware!
Pic related, my set up in the worst part of a room unfortunately.

I took my sony speakers and JVC receiver out last night. Gonna sell it all. Record player too. I just listen to CD's and cassette with my VMODAs these days

Ultimate scrappy system/10
Just moved into a new apartment and my parents gave me their old setup. Its not bad. Sounds alright so far
Could someone tell me how fucked my speaker placement is?

sorry for sideways photo

Your stereo separation will be very poor, you'll nearly be hearing in mono.
My friend actually has that exact Luxman CD player? He found his at a Goodwill, pretty cool.

Front view.
i know i shouldn't have my speakers on my desk....

I actually have a pioneer wooden stereo cabinet but can't fit it into my room, hence the OP pic.

Oh and I also use this as my "stereo" when I plug my discman or walkman into it.
Its very loud and has a nice shitty lo-fi quality. I wish I just grew up in the 80's to be honest.

Hitachi FX-7 got it yesterday for around $37, I was going to use it only for recording tapes for my car but I was surprised with the quality of the product, sounds way better than my modern low end player, and it's over 20 years old

you're gonna wreck your amp if you aren't careful. I set my peavy bass amp on fire putting feedback through it. They're designed to take guitar level frequencies.
>>72535607
it has a CD/tape input to take line level

i got the same NAD somewhere in my house, along with a bunch of other nad stuff. I dont really use them anymore because tube amp fag, but they always preformed amazing. Hold onto that, they are great pieces of equipment, easily better than any pioneer, sony, other japan shit, ect.
Speakers are Sony SS-U 531AV driven by the matching TA-AV531 receiver. Bought off a highschool buddy for $50. I also just picked up a pair of Cambridge Soundworks Model 6's from Goodwill that I'm going to refoam.
> Rega RP1 PP with Ortofon 2M Red
> Sony GX800ES receiver
> Pioneer BS22LR speakers
> D-Box David 300 12" sub
> jimmy rigged table suspension system
And almost enough old amps and receivers to run them all.

Old Hitachi HiFi is surprising awesome for what you'll pay. My cheap looking plasticy turntable in the first pic is a really solid p mount direct drive model and it's got a properly self calibrating stroboscope, it's NEVER set incorrectly so it has no adjustment option.
P mount is actually really awesome, shame nobody makes new turntables like that now, everything is set up to spec out of the box so nothing can go wrong.
Anyone have any experience troubleshooting VFD peak meters?
The one on the cassette deck in my OP image has a weird "sticking" issue. It's hard to explain, like, after a few minutes some parts will become illuminated or stick in a half brightness state underneath the regular meter, which still functions. If I tap it, the ghosting goes away, but then after a few more minutes it comes back and i can't tap it out.

Some guy's dad had it stored for years, he died so his son sold his stuff, it was around $80 but nobody bought it, so I got it for less than half the price, I've been trying to get info about my "new old" stereo, but I only got the service manual. Do you know something about it?
The boom box is a sony with p. Good sound

It's not even too unattractive for a component stereo. I especially like the big ass backlit green lcd
