5 is a pretty fair score for the album. I didn't agree with him about some of the tracks (particularly The Apprentice), but it did really feel like the whole project was half-hearted in both music and promotional material to really be a Gorillaz album.

Exactly. They did what literally every artist that is not self aware enaugh inevitable does: They were not self-reflectant enaugh to understand what made their music good in the first place themselves and thus were unable to transfer it over to new material. It happens to basically every non-god-tier artist sooner or later. From then on out there are only two possibilities: They make "more of the same" and it's mediocre because it lacks sould or they make "something new and exicting and differen xD" and its a godawefull abomination.

This album is just really mediocre and uninspired for a goriallaz album and totally deserves the 5.5, I would personally give a 4.5 because while unlike the faggot reviewer I really like two or three songs, but found the rest even worse than he did.

There are literally songs from Gorillaz B-Sides that are better than this entire album.

This is such an accurate review, particularly with how the guest artists were utilized (D.R.A.M. in particular). The only flaw is that a 5 might be a bit high, but his reasoning is solid.

I can see why he'd give it a 5. The album as a whole is a little too messy and fast-paced for it's structure to sink in.

I still think the songs on here are way too good for me to agree with the rating though. On an individual track basis I like the tracks more here than on Plastic Beach, and if you count for the Deluxe Edition I think this album has the best "last stretch" of any Gorillaz album, since the band has never been good at closing out any of their albums.

Probably not. Plenty of normies are digging the album and the overall reception leans towards positive. Damon can chalk up a good amount of kneejerk dislike to the same critique you heard at Plastic Beach's release. Plenty of people just did not get into that album at release, especially /mu/ - not that it makes Humanz better, but after seven years and him putting out something drastically different like this, he's probably not going to take much of the feedback seriously until the hype has died down.

On another note I agree with Double Toasted that I kind of think the next album should go back to marketing itself more around the band members. Like it or not even if the music is what matters, Gorillaz has always used marketing as a crutch for the experience and without it most of the music isn't as quaint, especially Demon Days.

Who gives a fuck what this guy thinks? Form your own fucking opinion. Reviews should only be used for their descriptive function, not their qualitative function.
