Terrible singer, but the 10/10 songwriting makes up for it.

As said above, amazing songwriter - mediocre vocalist.

That said, his voice was fucking perfect for what The Velvet Underground were trying to achieve in their music.

Incredibly personal and powerful.

But you're right, Lou has so many different sorts of styles, Rock 'N' Roll Animal, Berlin, Coney Island Baby, Take No Prisoners, Ecstacy, etc. His music is so much richer than it seems. It's deceptively simple.
