John Wagner coalition-Shades of Brown

to start in the JB REAlm, ere's sething he might have appreciated if it came o his ears, because for once this 1976 band understood it was pointless to try to make dinner better than the chef, so they did it their own effective (but, sadly, only 30mn long) style

Jodesha & star ride - Star ride / The answer :

the only peruvian funk I knew until now was Black sugar (they made two good LPs that are more funky than this maxi)

Royal flush - Hot spot

incredible half P half boogie album from the usually soulful Chicago from the brain of the Shelton/Commander duo
first track is pretty much a copycat of Prince's Sexy dancer, but the rest is so good they(re forgiven

You are welcome, I can give you quick crash course.
The man who adapted the cumbia style to electric guitar was Enrique Delgado, every note he plays grooves, no exceptions, with his band Los destellos he defined the psychodelic cumbia and the electric cumbia.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKC4WYq6G7k
Peruvians are the masters of this psychodelic sound because of him, while the colombians played a more traditional cumbia.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LP7kfyGnsvg
In south america if your band it's good you can make a hundred records and have a stable career because there's always job for dance music.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PFQuyqmx3A
Currently besides the Peruvian style you have the cumbia Villera from Argentina.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSd7OAvM_fo
And the Chilombian cumbia from Chile that's a mix of the other styles.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLmxvAqj85c
This guys are from my town and destroy every dance floor they play in.

The other main style here it's mambo.

Innovated by the Legendary Perez Prado Damaso.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzT-w0h9FBY
Yma Sumac the Inca monarchy (for real), made this mambo album inspired by him.
And Charles Mingus has a cumbia record, while a fantastic album I don't think he manages to capture the groove that delgado can reach with three notes.

Thanks man.
I really appreciate it.
is city pop welcome here?
>>72526929
you got it pretty well
I'm no puritan, but when shit works there's no need for obstinate innovation. people sometimes complain about funk not being innovative enough but that's because there's no need to when shape's been perfected
what often matters is how you use it, not how original you are for the sake of being original
The counts - What's up front that-counts
http://www40.zippyshare.com/v/5tNGjgAe/file.html
one of the many cornerstones any funk collection should have, there's simply nothing to throw away and this album defines quite well the funk spirit

also, if you like rap, the track Bills has been sampled by Iam in Chez le mac

thanks anon, been lookin for some funky 80s music to sample
>>72527606
I love this album (anything with Burgess and Admas involved is assured to be great anyway). I have two copies of the maxi but I strangely never saw the album in thrift shop, while it's not very rare or anything
>>72527675
there are heaps of excellent 80s funk. it's more maxi oriented than ever, though. but we're lucky, some labels start to issue unreleased stuff from the 80s that are crazy good and were probably left aside solely for money problems
I'm going to a friend's place to help him harvest. I should be back in some hours.
keep this thread going, and keep funkin !

Really love this groove, would appreciate any recs for anything similar!
Not super knowledgeable about most of these genres but I might have some more obscure stuff I can share later
