I guess I just don't get the boring criticism. There's a lot happening both rhythmically and in tone. The harmonics add a lot, especially on top of that mesmerizing rhythm in the verses of Nosferatu man. Compositional, the tracks all rise and fall very organically. Boring just seems crazy to me.

It's a one-note album, but goddamn what a note.
The concept is real simple, but the execution of Dummy is almost-perfect.
Beth Gibbons has an incredible, sultry voice, and the beats/backing instrumentals are very well suited for her. In my opinion, there's no filler tracks on that LP.

But it's understandable if melancholy wailing isn't your thing.

I feel you dude, but I've grown to appreciate this album on more of a respect level than an enjoyment level. You have to think of it as what it was at the time. Some of the songs I genuinely jam out to like Xtal, WATMM, Heliosphan and Pulsewidth but there are some songs that feel EXTREMELY dated (even for this album, looking at Green Calx which is barely listenable)

I actually came here to post this
I really dig Fela Kuti and Atoms For Peace and even fucking Lizzy Mercier Descloux but for some reason this album has never appealed a lot to me. I love Born Under Punches and The Great Curve, and I love the live recording of Crosseyed And Painless but the rest just kinda bores me, even Once In A Lifetime. Dunno why

>>72518107
>Treasure (late period CT is better)
Yeah I agree with this
TOTBL is kinda objectively a watered-down indie rock version of The Chameleons/Joy Division but it really nails the style/atmosphere I think. It's a much better 2000's indie rock album than a post-punk one. Listen to it on a walk through the city at night.

>>72523966
Even the dude who produced it admitted that the long-winded glitchy ambient passages were a little much.
I think this one's a lot like Deathconsciousness where if really buy into the concept and the style it's the greatest shit you'll ever hear and otherwise it's just okay

>>72523937
NOTM sounds like nothing else ever made desu. I think the Bjork production is goddamn brilliant

Everyone says this but imagine if Damon had just made the Gorillaz material his solo career without the cartoon band or anything.

>90's alt-rock frontman decides to become a DJ and make a hip-hop/electronic album as Blur is losing mainstream appeal and one year after Kid A is released
At best it looks like he's grasping for relevance. I'm surprised even with the cartoon band he didn't get scorned for it. And that's even ignoring the fact that half the normies who love the band probably wouldn't recognize Blur if Song 2 kicked them in the shins

The music is the music but everyone always bitches about the band being cheesy and I think everyone should remember how much cheesier it would have been to see a mid-30s ex rock star singing over Clint Eastwood

It's like Kid A except nothing interesting happens
>>
>>72533416
You're missing the point
Kid A and MHTRTC have similar elements and influences but Kid A is still a rock album and this is ambient techno.
Take a few minutes to relax with it and let it wash over you. I thought it was boring as sin at first too but once you appreciate what it's going for you'll realize how catchy it is

My Bloody Valentine-Loveless. Has two good songs i listen to from time to time. Reminds me of how much a failure i am.

To Pimp A Butterfly- Unfortunately. I get the way Kendrick executed the plot, but i don't understand it. Just a classic rap album with nice vibes for me. Same goes for Damn, some good songs there.

Converge - Jane Doe. Yeah, i know, mathcore is inovative and all, album has some nice songs, but the guitar work and the time signatures sometimes go over the top. Let me bang my head, damn.

I'm open for a discussion.

gy!be is kind of forgettable to me

I have no interest in relistening to jazz most of the time, I guess it sounds nice but idk.

I don't really care for Surfer Rosa, although I like doolittle

I don't really like music from before early 70s. Oldest stuff I honestly like is like Bowie. Beatles, Bob Dylan, Beach Boys do nothing for me.

>>
>>72518133
>vocals are just another part of the music
If you're listening to shoegaze or post rock, I'd have to agree.
>>
>>72535609
I think the reason for me not digging it is because I listened to some post punk before so the production didn't got me and I listened to sad music before it so the mood of the album didn't got me either, reminds me of my reaction to Nirvana.

Only listened to it twice though, but I guess it's just not for me, since I enjoyed a lot of things people have posted ITT on first listen but I just can't get into Joy Division.
>>
>>72518133
Honestly as long as the vocals do something for the song it's fine but if you can cut them out and not lose anything from it or cutting them out would actually improve the track then you have a bad singer, a bad producer, the composition is not good or the instrumentation is more interesting than the singer.

It's more about delivery than the content of the lyrics.

Either you're really that dumb or this is decent bait. Either way you got me to reply, so good job. If this isn't his best, then what is? All his other albums have the same "monotone voice" and the beats are not as imaginative or detailed.

I had a similar opinion when I listened to that album for the first time. I would suggest listening to the remastered version, reading on the band's history and the impact this album had on other bands, listening to Nico's albums and coming back to it. Not to mention they invented art rock and experimental rock.
>>
>>72546424
>Listen to an enhanced version, study bands history research people who say it's good and listen to other supplementary records to enjoy this one
