production is top notch, but very distinct (it sounds like it was produced on an EPS16 (which it was), like early El-P work)
essential 90s east coast, but definitely not in the top 20 of all time lists its often thrown in

Honestly I don't like illmatic. Just, overrated.

Its good, but their hooks are lacking. I can't imagine anyone calling this their alltime favorite album from that era of hip hop.
