So you don't like Marty Friedman huh?

He must not be a Marty Friedman guy.
To answer your question OP. Btw, this is coming from a guitar teacher with 11 years of experience. No. Fuck youtube videos. Some like to learn by tab, and some like to learn by ear, and we all use both. But there's better ways to learn than sitting there watching some fat goatee'd fuck spend 30 minutes teaching you how to make a D chord. You can sit through it if you want but it's pure torture. I would recommend relying on your ears more to pick out the notes because down the road you'll be soloing like a jazz god blowing minds while classical bitches just say "How can u play without da sheet music??? Daaa what???"
there's no reason for this thread to exist

I'd also recommend this book. Has pretty solid material, chops it down to what you really need to know without all the excess bullshit you might find on Youtube.

Sure, but one of the best ways to get the basics down is learn some simple songs that you like.
Don't know about anyone else but I can't practice a song without liking it

Is really all you need.

yes of course they are great
do that for a couple years before wasting money on lessons with a teacher

It's not a very challenging instrument (unless you're playing classical guitar) so YouTube videos are fine, as long as you find good ones. Especially if you have a background in music already
