Was it XLR to TS or TRS, because XLR and TRS use the same cable. With a lot of monitor outs on mixers and interfaces you can use trs to xlr or trs to trs or xlr to xlr(if the monitor utilizes trs) and there will be absolutely no difference because they function in the same way.

But, if your interface doesn't utilize trs inputs you'd be right. Some interfaces, like the scarletts also don't activate the mic pre unless you use xlr. Nice trick if you're using a di box with xlr out and want to utilize the cable shielding without the mic pre.

Not trying to correct you, just trying to share some information that I had to learn after much frustration in the past.

There isn't a country in the world that doesn't make shitty guitars of some kind or another. Likewise there aren't many countries that don't have someone who wants to make top notch guitars.

Honestly the thing about golden age Japan guitars that I think is best is when that one factory was making 5 piece necks. I really like 3 and 5 piece necks, shame they aren't more common. But jap guitars not coming from that one factory, I forget the name, are just like any other guitar.

Interesting. The background is definitely more unique than the solo over it. That's the main problem with this kind of music for me, you can't really improv over it. Whenever I come up with an interesting sound and loop it, that's where it stops for me and I don't know what else to do with it. Solo ruins it all the time.

Bingo on the pre amp.
Was using xlr to trs, but the interface only has xlr for the mic, so the line in didnt carry the same quality for especually for acoustics, wasnt too bad for recording my amps though. Nit using any real pre amp, just a sm57 and an ild lexicon alpha. For a poorfag Im happy with the small upgrade.

The xlr to trs has came in handy at so many live gigs when I played bass because my amp has an xlr out and 1/4 line out and depending on the mixer I could use either side on my amp to match the soundboard.
>>
>>72490572
I didn't even listen(can't now) but I already know. Guitar rig is fucking horrible for guitar toanz. They sound great through computer speakers, but that's where it ends. That being said, they have some of the best and most versatile effects in the game, even if setting them up can be kind of obtuse. I used it dozens of times just for the effects. I used it for a couple of widely released hip hop tracks to make far out ambient noise. I went all out with it. I recorded clean DI. Then I reamped them, i went through some some effects in guitar rig to the reamp box into the amp, but then i went from the effects out back to the di box to the interface. Then i reamped again through a delay(did this twice with different settings to layer far left and right) into the effects return to pish the power amp and then to a final track from a mic. I also had a fuzzed out tracks reamped through a rams head and black russian running in stereo as well buried beneath the mix. It all fit together really well, even though all three songs sound the same on my end.

Seriously, if native instruments did a guitar rig effects that had more effects with more detail to each one I'd buy it in a heart beat. Even of it cost a grand, fuck waiting for a crack.

And even though I might have shit on the guitar sounds, i used it for 2 eps from a shitty comedy hardcore punk project I was doing with my buddy. Mostly because I couldn't bring a couple guitar and bass stacks into his apartment without getting the cops called. It still sounded fine with work in a lofi mix.

can someone help me with the micky baker book?

lesson 4-5 he says to transpose it to a different key, i really have no idea how to do that.

is he meaning for me to change a V note from the key he's in to the V note of another key and so on?

but he didnt say which key it's in in the first place..

also he substituted all the chords into something else, how am i supposed to transpose that?

i have relatively low theory knowledge but i know what a key is..

>>72491706
Monitors are intended to have a flat frequency response. High end monitors have speakers and cabinets that are designed to not put emphasis on any particular frequency. They're intended to be unbiased and unforgiving with the idea that if you can make something sound great with them it will sound good across most platforms(although smart phones, the recent rise in closed back headphones, and earbuds can be challenging). A lot of general use or "hifi" speakers are designed to make things sound good. For example, a lot of cheap small speakers for the listener that don't have a sub will accentuate the bass frequencies so you get a full sound. There are speakers designed for things like living rooms. If you make a mix sound good for a computer speaker it doesn't mean it'll sound good in a car, for example.

I don't have the scientific knowledge behind it, but I've seen the practical knowledge first hand. I've been doing /diy/ recording since 2005 for myself and others, abd a bad pair of monitors and a bad room can break you on a finish product. My finished products have sounded so much better after I built a specific mixing room that was properly treated.
>>
>>72492969
can a good headphone that has subs like akg k414p or that koss porta pro do the job if you dont want to buy top monitors and build a mixing room

>>
>>72493117
yeah g major has teh same intervals as the key of a major, the intervals are the same -major scale- starting on g and then on a
>>
>>72492877
Transpose would mean bring A minor to B minor for example.

We were in an audition for a 2 week slot on a local boat for upscale individuals. Playing an original song(we were allowed 5 a set) and the MD said "thats really good, its.nice for the mood we're setting, but your singers voice cracked. Play it a step and a half lower. We all looked at each other, paused, and hit it. I went from playing an open E.
major to a C# major at the 4th fret, for example. We got the gig. It's a good skill to learn, and not too difficult.
>>
>>72486545
Is that the kid from swmrs? They suck
>>
>>72493103
You can make a good enough mix on $10 headphones if you have a good ear and realize what frequencies they accentuate. Even some low level monitors work wonders for improvement, but no matter what it'll be a fight for "good enough." I don't mix in headphones, the bass end is hard to get right. I do text my mix in headphones.
>>
>>72493154
so everything is exactly the same, just the notes are different
but it would be different to the minor scale, but then again each minor scale is exactly the same except notes?
so i only really have to remember one set of chords for each scale?
hmmmm

>>72493158
yeah micky baker is telling me to do this
>>
>>72493244
It doesn't hurt to learn, I had to use it once like that. I was performing once and broke my A string covering superstition. That was fun to work around, but I figured it out quickly with that skill. Both times in made or broke me, and learning it lets you loom at musoc in a different way. For single note lines it's generally easy. If you're moving up it's easy. Learn barre chords, learn intervals and it's easy to figure you're out on the spot. Keep a capo with you.
>>
>>72493244
yes its called intervals, look it up

major scale, minor scale, theyre a set of intervals
you apply these startinf from root - the key's note
>>
>>72493364
>loom at musoc
Look at music. Intervals stay the same, notes change. Play an e major arpeggio on the low e. 0 4 7. Play an f major arpeggio, 1 5 8.
>>
>>72493364
>>72493408
so to transpose something.. i would literally have to move the entire piece up for down the neck?
is it really that easy?
>>
>>72493803
yeah, what did you think it meant?

like if you were in drop d tuning, you'd move up two frets to play a song that's in e
>>
>>72493803
yes. Though open strings and whatnot
>>
>>72493842
yeah i was kind of over thinking it a lot haha
>>
>>72493803
Seriously. Well that's a cheating way to look at it, but everyone has their tricks. When transposing the distance between notes never changes.
>>
>>72493860
it happens, makes things a lot easier now doesn't it :^)?
>>
>>72493803
yes that is what transposing is. what youre gonna ask next? to wipe your ass?
yeah unless the book you're reading is asking to transpose to a different scale, lets say a major key to a minor key one step down, then you would take the intervals (1 2 3 4 5 6 7) to (1 2 b3 4 5 b6 b7)
which would be A Bm C#m D E F#mº G#m to G Amº Bb Cm Dm D# F
>>
>>72493990
if the verses of song of that example of key of A are
A F#m C#m E
then youd transpose to Gm D# Bb Dm
>>
okay then,
how do i find what key the music is in? would i just recognise that those notes are similar to the key?
of course if i didn't have the key signature on the music sheet
>>
>>72494077
you find which note feels like "home" or "resting", that would be the root note
and if you have the chords down, you find which scale these chords fit in

You are supposed to play at least 9 string guitar and djent. That's what millennials do these days. Playing real music is not an option unless it's tuned so low you can't even hear the lowest notes. This is the unfortunate state of the days.

Yo so where do I start in terms of playing sheet music on guitar instead of tab. I just got started, i can read music because my experience with different instruments but pls send help for guitar ;;
>>
>>72495609
Adding extensions to chords isn't that hard. Neither is making them flat or sharp.
>>
>>72495650
If you check tabs by Guitar World for example, it has both notes and tabs together, this helps you to visualize what you are doing. But starting to play guitar... that's your own motivation. What are your goals and what kind of music you want to play? Do you play some other instrument already?

>>
>>72495727
Also i dont know if I was clear about this ive been playing guitar for 2 years already its just that I rely on tabs primarily for learning things and since im going more into music theory
>>
>>72495700
I can't help you to start out as it's been over 20 years since I started out. It's better if you take your time, learning to play is not a race but something what you do for your life. If you stop practicing after 2 months of picking guitar up in the first place you are not probably motivated enough to continue. Most people stop after initial expression wanting to play, they stop after few weeks because they can't handle the thought they are beginners and they also don't practice until their fingers bleed. It's painful in the beginning and you need to embrace the pain.

I guess you should google which are good online teachers and seek their videos on youtube. When I started there wasn't even readily available internet and I needed to buy guitar magazines and ask my friend to copy some music videos and live gigs on vhs as they were the only people who had satellite and MTV was still playing heavy metal daily. These days it's SO MUCH easier to learn to play as everything is available with just click of a button.

It also helps tremendously if you have a friend who plays guitar and is more advanced than you.

I have to say, reading through these old method books has really helped my technique. Getting to the point where I can pick things out more easily by ear in this tuning, too. It's gonna be difficult if I ever decide to go back to C6. May have to get/build a second guitar to keep in other tunings.

I have both an Ampeg BA-120, and a Gen 2 Fender Rumble 150 watt. I'm thinking of selling the Ampeg and forwarding the funds to other stuff.

I like them both so much, but the fender is easier to carry, and easier to dial in a good diverse sound. The Ampeg kind of sucks when I'm trying to dial in a warm balanced tone. The mids are either too drowned out, or its too doinky sounding.

I play a P-bass with flats, and generally NO peak. Ampeg with Big muff bass pedal.
>>
>>72499584
I hate my p-bass through my ampeg too. Maybe thats the problem.

Those split pickups just sound bad to me.
>>
>>72499662
Hmm, thats a new perspective to me. I LOVE the P-bass in every way. It can do almost anything, but with flats its pretty much dedicated to hard driving sounds, or blues.

I try to give my bass the napalm death grind. its been a 100% success with flats, muff, and an ampeg. But giving it a warmer sound has been utter shit.
>>
>>72498703
That uke has a plastic back and sides, actually. I think it was 20 or 40 dollars. Sounds good though, I ended up buying another one at a yard sale for $5. I did finish lowering the but today. I was babysitting so I didn't manage to lower the bridge yet. I won't be lowering it too much since I'm pretty happy with the action, but I want the notches deeper so they can put up with harder playing and popping.
>>
>>72499294
you do not play, you make simple beats and "sample" other people's playing
>>
>>72499662
Try wiring the coils parallel. Should pretty much sound like a single coil. Easy mod, one I do to all my basses. And since all it really does is lower the capacitance and output, to get the original tone back you just have to use your tone knob.

It's always an ongoing thing. If you want to be truly original keep forcing yourself to create something that distinguishes you from other contemporary musicians. Always try to be one step ahead and document your progress (in recordings) so no one can say you took their style.

Question to you and every other Harley Benton owner: What's been your experience. Worth it?

I have a HB - Les Paul Jr which I basically got as a bonus with a practice amp I bought. And, while currently serviceable it did not come with quality. It might be cheapest model par the DIY kits.
It required a fret leveling and end rounding before it turned from a finger slicing - mute from 19th fret up mongoloid to something that can be played.
Also the rear bridge posts drilling is too narrow. How can you even fuck that up`?

Now, I don't play too much anymore but I'd like to dabble with a bass in the future and the HB ones look like solid price range for my amateurish shit. Is there a price point / specific year where they start turning better than the retarded one I got??

No, you have to throw it out and get a new guitar.

I usually only keep to a few boards but this is by far the worst general I have seen on all of 4chan.

Well I dunno about a Behringer, I need something to last and perform propperly. Nothing against Behringer, but their products are that cheap for a reason, sooner or later they fall apart.
