Robert Johnson, Charlie Patton, Son House.
I love me some Howlin' Wolf. Start Moanin' in the Moonlight

Blind Willie Johnson, Leadbelly, and Lightning Hopkins. Shoot for the Delta Blues, man.
It depends what you're into. Start with Robert Johnson and Charlie Patton obvs, but after that there's a lot of regional uniqueness.
Chicago and Swamp blues would go on to inspire a lot of rock. Piedmont and Texas are more harmonious and have more intricate guitar. Hill country is rhythm heavy and very lyrically dark, almost gothic I would say. What are you looking for?

ive started out just listening to the guys that directly influenced the rock n roll bands i listen to... so muddy waters, jimmy reed, slim harpo, bb king, albert king, fred mcdowell, bo diddley, etc
bb king is kind of verging on too much virtuosity for me, whereas robert johnson and some muddy waters stuff gets a bit too slow. i'm really into the shuffle type stuff that jimmy reed and slim harpo do, and the bottleneck guitar playing that fred mcdowell does.
personally, i play country/western dobro and rock n roll guitar so i like stuff that has a bit of swing/boogie in it

I'd recommend the guys inspired by McDowell, RL Burnside and Junior Kimborough
Burnside's version of Shake em on Down: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFoPYr8XDrE
