Had them for a pretty long while now. Incredibly comfortable, my head never gets sore no matter how long they've been on. And they sound great, especially when you have them connected to a good amp/dac, or in my case I have a Xonar Essence STX sound card.

I can recommend from personal experience either the Sony MDR-V6 or the Sennheiser HD 598. The Sennheiser headphones are my personal favorite, they have an amazing open sound stage and an amazing sound quality I haven't heard from any headphones under $300 but they're kind of slow so the sound can get muddy if you listen to really fast really clean recordings, but only then. The Sony headphones have a narrower sound stage and in my opinion don't sound nearly as good (still an amazing pair of headphones, nothing better under $100) but a more accurate sound, very clean and clinical, they didn't chug at anything I threw at them. The V6's have much much better isolation to boot and they're a lot more portable. You could get away with using the V6's as an at home + portable set while if you wore the HD598's anywhere there was a lot of noise you couldn't hear your music and if you wore them somewhere there wasn't a lot of noise everyone could hear your music as clear as if you had a pair of speakers around your neck.
>>72489640
I got those. They literally smell like ass after absorbing my glorious stench for 4-5 months.
Sennheiser HD600, very occasionally my old AKG K701s. I use these with an ODAC and 02 Amp.
The HD600s really are pretty fucking great, I might splurge on the HD800s in a few years once I graduate.

I bit the bullet on the HD 650s, they should be here this week. I also bought the meme DAC/amp stack to compliment by memephones, I'm looking forward to hearing it.
Love them.
I refuse to buy an amp out of fear that everybody that shills them are just doing it to feel better about wasting a bunch of money. I'd expect a negligible difference at best. I don't want people that insist they hear improvement in flac over 320kbps to tell me I need amps to get the most out of my headphones.
If a normal human being, not a fucking wacko audiophile living in fantasy land wanna tell me that there is a real difference to using amps feel free to do so. I wish I could test it myself, but I just cannot trust audiophiles ever, they fall for the dumbest snake oil shit imaginable. It annoys the shit out of me that these people are trying to insist they hear improvement in flac when their human biology says otherwise.
Are there any other closed back headphones that have a similar sound to the MX50 that aren't the MX50?
I love the bass heavy sound but after years of use the ear pads are starting to deteriorate and they're becoming even more uncomfortable than they already were
Sony MDR-V55 I really like them but want to get a pair of over ear headphones.

>>72500187
>Blah blah blah snake oil blind tests shills etc.
If you are happy with the volume of your music you don't need an amp. I wasn't as I have high impedence headphones that are difficult to drive, making my music far too quiet for my liking. That is why I needed an amp; the amp resolved the issue.
If you are happy with the quality of your music source you don't need an external dac. I wasn't, as my motherboard was fucking shit at the time and the amp (through increased volume) made its failings even more obvious. The dac resolved this.
Finally, you don't need to bother with lossless music unless you have excellent headphones, an amp, arguably a decent dac AND you are anal enough to hear the difference and find it distracting. I actually can so all my music is in lossless now. There is nothing pseudo-scientific about this, humans don't fucking hear in bitrates so don't try and make it out that hearing the difference between compressed and lossless is biologically impossible. The blind tests are unreliable as it is largely down to the user, their expectations, the and the equipment. Some people can hear the difference, some people cannot, some just don't have the quality of setup to be capable of it. There is no conspiracy here.

Bayerdynamic DT880 250Ohm - almost perfect but with a noticeable peak at ~8kHz. Need to use software equalizer to get a enjoyable sound.

I don't dispute there isn't a difference, there may very well be a discernible difference to some trained ears, but difference being the key word there, not improvement.

>>72489640

>>72503742
Certainly to me lossless music is quite a substantial improvement for well-recorded albums, but then I have audio equipment that is good enough to benefit from lossless. It's not even expensive when compared to how much an old hi-fi system used to cost.
It's not for everyone and if you are happy with MP3 I don't look down on you for that whatsoever, it still sounds good. I am more than happy to use MP3 and inexpensive in ear headphones on my phone, tablet etc. as there's no benefit to lossless with such equipment. It just annoys me that some people appear to think lossless is complete bullshit when their system isn't good enough to reap the benefits or they are just not particularly bothered by sound quality.
>>72498797
