The instrumentation tries way too hard.
The strings are fucking blaring in your ears at full force, over-dramatic as shit, considering Thom is just mumbling over it all as always. They're trying to force a climax that never happens.

Oh, it happens alright. It's just the "climax" is in the running for Thom's greatest lyrical snafu, and I'm of the belief that it was there to offset the stupidity of a line like "The numbers don't decide/Your system is a lie". That said, what I do like about the instrumentation comes back to the base of the song with the looped pianos, guitar melodies and tasteful drumming. To me, AMSP displays a good ear for setting up a dreamlike ambience with loops and gently cutting into them with subtle instrumentation to progress the song. It's like Weird Fishes from In Rainbows taken to the next logical level by incorporating the experimentation of TKOL in a more mature and refined manner. That's what I get from the album, anyways.
