I mean you're right but Deafheaven's a good gateway band for this, a lot of people find Alcest through Deafheaven these days, people that probably would have never heard of bands like Alcest, Isis, etc.

The two aren't that similar; Alcest is barely shoegaze, their main innovaltion was combining harsh guitars with dreamier post-rock melodies and progressions.
