I get it, Damon.
This can be done much more subtley.

This

The Gorillaz IS Damon, let the man fucking sing
>>
Too many guests while pushing Damon towards the background for some reason. Also lose the variety and just give Danny Brown more air time. It just feels like he was trying to replicate what Demon Days did.

Just listend to the album, and I have to say that Saturn Barz, Momentz, Andromeda, She's My Collar, and We Got the Power are the only songs I really enjoyed listening to. I have to say that this is pretty disappointing, but maybe it will get better with more listens.

It grows with every fucking listen. But all albums do that for me with Gorillaz. This one is just, something about it is special. Idk. I don't get a lot of the hate, I guess it's the "dancey" vibes to all of em.
>>
Saturnz barz is decent when damon sings, the "all moy loif" puts me off
>>
>>72441816
Damon made it on an ipad and booked features on his daughters advice

It's shit. Fucking hell, it's shit.

I'm pretty casual when it comes to music, and my taste are pretty eh but I thought it was pretty bad, then again I think it's just cause I really don't like modern rap which makes up a lot of this album.

No it isn't. It's a project that's meant to be entirely collaborative. Also, who do you think is not allowing Damon to sing?
>>
This album is too We Wuz Kangz and Fuck Drumpf to age well.

How fucking bad does the next album have be to make this good? The only good parts are Damon singing, so everytime he is not, its disappointing. Why is this nigger singing? Why is now another nigger singing? This nigger can't speak english and is so fucking autotuned, what is the point of having him there? And as you go on getting Damon replaced by random niggers, you piece together the theme of this album. Its all about the recent manufactored sociopolitics. Black Lives Matter. Fuck Drumpf. Feel the Bern. I cannot listen to We Got The Power without seeing smug Bernie Sanders fans, and it makes it so fucking annoying, because evidently you don't have the power.

The album is bad because Damon's not singing. And Damon's not singing because of niggers. So the album is bad because of niggers. And its all sociopolitical extremist shit. Then again, the whole album is just sociopolitical shit, so it wasn't ment to be anything more than praise how Jesus loves you and me.
>>
>>72447412
Damon himself, because he is old as fuck, just like his buddy Noel Gallagher.

There's a reason why 75% of this guy's twilight career has been in composing soundtracks. But, fucking millenials still want the new Clint Eastwood so he got Vince Staples and Danny Brown instead of Snoop Dogg and Lou Reed and now everyone's mad. It's a chemistry of mixing pee and poo together to make drugs, and it leaves everyone feeling sick even when they do get a little high.
>>
>>72447503

Literally the best and most accurate review I've read of this album so far
>>
>>72446834
>Just when I think people here can't be any more retarded
Anon, they literally used an album cover that depicts the fictional band members as real (3D) people. One of the main things that brought all the great earlier Gorillaz stuff together was that it was firmly tongue-in-cheek. Humanz has no sense of humor, and it shows most aggregiously in the music desu.
>>
You know the album is good when anyone who hates it eventually says nigger if you discuss it long enough, no actual arguments about the music just niggers
>>
I can't stop laughing at children who think that Damon Albarn is somehow getting crowded out of the album that he produces and features on. He just doesn't have many pop songs left in him, and furthermore he doesn't want to have to go on tour and play two hours worth of shit himself, he has young black men to do that for him and in shifts.
>>
>>72441816

5. The Apprentice
6. Saturnz Barz

8. Interlude: The Non-Conformist Oath

12. Andromeda
13. Ticker Tape*
14. Busted & Blue*
15. Halfway to the Halfway House
16. Interlude: Penthouse
17. She's My Collar*
18. Out of Body*
19. Sex Murder Party*
20. Hallelujah Money
21. Circle of Friendz
22. We Got the Power

The * is for ones I don't know how to order in their respective sections

Aside from a few tracks I don't like, that's pretty good. A bit bloated though. The ordering could be a problem to the 'MUH LORE' fags because of the deluxe tracks telling a story of the end of the world and shit.
I made Out of Body go after Penthouse because both tracks imply that there's some sort of party/ritual going on and it fits pretty well.
>>

When 99% of people only use Spotify or Apple Music & don't buy physicals, how is this a problem? It's actually a blessing cause everyone can pick their favorites

>>72448488
I thought that too -- that Penthouse sequence of 3 does start best with Out of Body's 'hushed' beginning, but then I don't like bumping the energy up with She's My Collar only to bring it back down with SMP

So right now I'm gonna try a listen with Penthouse => Collar => SMP => Out of Body, as well as switching B&B and Ticker Tape.
+ I don't really get the post-world's-end vibe from the deluxe tracks, even though it makes sense that's what they're supposed to be

What tracks would you remove, though? If I had to pick two it'd be The Apprentice & Halfway, actually. A 3rd would be She's My Collar; not sure why that's on alot of people's favorites
>>
>>72447608
Fucking this.

Same thing happened with Plastic Beach.
>>
Plastic Beach sucked except a handful of track
This album sucks except a handful of tracks
The Fall sucks except a few tracks

Par for the course, I guess.
>>
The thing with Humanz is that it doesn't really have its own hit song.

Gorillaz had Clint Eastwood
Demon Days had Feel Good
Plastic Beach had Melancholy Hill
Humanz has... nothing

Yeah, there are a couple of decent songs here and there but it's mostly just trashy songs that any rapper wannabe would upload to SoundCloud.
>>
>>72441816
I've read you dumbasses complain about how bad this album is for weeks, and it's fantastic.
There's been a lot of back and forth about how it doesn't sound like Gorillaz or how Gorillaz don't have a sound, but Gorillaz does have a sound and the instrumentation on Humanz is consistent with it, just more party-esque which was the point.

Strobelite is great.

Too many features on for too long makes it sounds like a Now This Is Music album and less catchy songs that take a much more direct approach to their topics. Its ok, just kinda eh
>>
The thing is, Gorillaz has always been a group that hinges upon its features. Because of this, no matter what they do, the pieces will always spotty and less than the greater whole. Damon himself is the only consistent part in any of their albums, and even then, his performances are spotty.

TL;DR Gorillaz has always been a messy side project and never released a truly great album. They are much more style than substance.

I don't like the music at all. It's missing the texture and complexity of the other albums. It also feels less independent lyrics-wise in the sense that all the songs are saying essentially the same things. I find it boring and tasteless independently of the fact that i do not like most rap or the political vision of the album. It's empty and it doesn't give me that sense of wonder that at least one song in each of the other Gorillaz albums gives me. Damon, the voice of 2D who is supposed to be the frontman, is almost entirely absent, along with actual musical instruments. Gorillaz lost their essence in a clusterfuck of features and pseudointellectualism. Drawings/videos are the only breath of fresh air.

And for the record, I love Gorillaz which makes this very disappointing for me. They sold their soul.

There have been plenty of people who hate it because it made Daemon the backing vocalist instead of lead like all the other albums. There are good songs in this, some of them even ones where Albarn has little to no singing, but it feels like a trash Gorillaz album. I waited 7 years for a Gorillaz album, not 'various talented musicians feat. Gorillaz'

9 out of 16 tracks in plastic beach feature Albarn as the main vocalist or at least even with the featured artist. That's over 50% of the album. Humanz has 26 tracks and has far less tracks than Plastic Beach with Albarn as the main vocalist. Fuck off dumbass, Humanz was a trash Gorillaz album and an average album if you didn't consider it to be associated with Gorillaz at all.
>>

They also don't fit with any of the retarded universal stereotypes for criticisms of this album you people keep going on about.
>>

>>
>>72453939
No but it's a silly argument carrying no weight when talking about the music, Gorillaz has always been pretty serious when it came to subject matter, Demon days was all about the post 9/11 political environment, with a song called fucking "Kids with guns" it has always been serious and just because there are cartoons does not mean the music is not serious. There are a couple wacky songs but many more serious ones and that's the way it has always been.
>>
>>72441816
Too little 2D tracks and no real hooks. No real theme like the last two albums either.
>>
>>72454243
Nobody ever heard that song. Gorrilaz are famous for clint eastwood and feel good inc. Theyre both very good songs that make good use of rock instruments and computer editing skills.

Demon Days and Plastic Beach were both silly concept albums with occasional moments of seriousness (such as Kids With Guns - one of my favorite tracks of theirs btw.) Humanz is the exact opposite. It's a serious concept album with fleeting moments of levity. Which is a problem because this is a project that revolves around musicians masquerading as cartoon characters. And the ultimate purpose of art is entertainment.

They may have songs on them that speak to those issues (if you make the effort to listen to the lyrics closely), but as albums that isn't what they are about. At the end of the day, they're about a group of cartoon characters in a virtual band. Humanz is Gorillaz, minus the entertainment factor and self-awareness.

Politics.

These days a famous celebrity can't do a single thing without people saying that it is somehow connected to politics.

The dark fantasy for him was the idea of Donald Trump being president.

I'm basically repeating what many other anons have stated at this point, but political themes have been present in Gorillaz's albums before, such as the anti-Bush sentiments present in Demon Days. One could argue that the difference between Humanz and Demon Days is that the latter puts the music first, politics second, but personally I don't think Humanz is as overtly political as some anons make it out to be. There are certainly songs that are downright political in nature, such as Ascension, Let Me Out, and Hallelujah Money, but these make up the minority of the album, and I find them enjoyable (though politics in music has never really done anything for me either way.)

Half this website worships Kanye and Kendrick who are very aggressive/outspoken rappers. The political commentary on this album is just shit and childish, from Damon and the guest artists alike.

I like this album but I think B- is a fair grade.

Not as good as Plastic Beach or Demon Days, but not a garbage pail like some shitstains in this thread would lead you to believe. The production quality is through the roof. The songs are catchy and mixed well. It plays really well as a cohesive dance album. "But that's not the Gorillaz sound!" No, it's not. But Gorillaz has never needed to have a sound. It's Damon Albarn's side project where he gets to do whatever the fuck he wants. It's not his best venture, but it's as "Gorillaz" as it's ever been.

I like submission a lot too, it's radio material but with gorillaz production. It's very interesting, I think it masquerades as something basic but is original. The rap is kind of annoying, but then again I always skip the rap part in Dirty Harry.
And Strobelight! What a hot track.

Listening to the bonuses now, ticker tape is really nice.

Thematically it isn't there for me, but on the basis of individual songs this might come close to plastic beach for me. I do actually really love the interludes. The way the non conformist oath leads into submission is awesome. There is a musical quality to the interludes that I have found immediate appreciation for.

I don't think every Gorillaz album needs to be Demon Dayz, but I think this album really really misses out on bass driven songs, which tend to be my favorite. They already taught me to love that though, onto the next thing.

All in all, I'm happy my favorite band is back haha! Can't wait to see them in July.

I basically only opened this thread to say that

Out Of Body is really good especially when you imagine its Noodle singing

Demon Days was pretty blatantly political too, so I wouldn't even really consider that the problem. Lack of Damon is the majority of the album's issues, it just feels like a compilation album with a shared producer without him singing.

first time listening, this voice is adorable.

Was just about to say the same thing alot of this album feels like a comp album where the features kinda overpower the song. Like let me out seems more of a pusha t track feat Mavis and gorillaz. Songs like charger, Andromeda, Momentz(mostly cause de LA soul are member by now), ascension, submission were a better use of a feature to me. Still enjoying the album tho except hallejuah money.....fuck that song.

Hallelujah Money grew on me big time. Took 10+ listens though.

I think this will be like Plastic Beach -- slept on at first, then people will enjoy it more and more as time goes on.

I blame this sort of thing on why I just can't enjoy it as much as earlier albums. Very little Damon translates to very little 2D, which makes it feel like it's less Gorillaz and more just a compilation of different artists, presented to you by Gorillaz, featuring one or two songs by Noodle.

This.

DD had White Light and PB had Glitter Freeze. Both 1/10 songs.

HM had no such annoying songs like that.

Same.

To this day, I just don't like Stylo all that much.. It's not bad per-se, but it just doesn't sound like a single.

Saturnz Barz is way better.

Saturnz Barz

Although it seems they're now pushing that song with Pusha T in it.
