Is there any composer, musicians, bands, whatever. Who actually invented a genre of music?
I'm not talking about a sub genre or one out of a few artist at that time making that genre.
I mean straight up LITERALLY invented a genre of music that was never done before.

He definitely helped to codify it into a genre, but I'd say Ambient dates back to at least the early 70s with stuff like Zeit by Tangerine Dream, Irrlicht by Klaus Schulze

grime is a subgenre of hip-hop
>>72433968
no the fuck it isn't.
Grime has more historical origin in uk garage, drumb and bass, and dancehall than even an actual inkling of American hip-hop.

Firstly, anything other than popular music, art music and traditional music is a subgenre of one of these three.
Secondly, artists don't "invent" genres, listeners and especially reviewers do, by grouping similar artists together under a collective label.

No I don't.

This. Seriously, close this thread already.

i guess rapping was invented in america but i'd argue that grime is a subgenre of hip hop only in the sense that every electric guitar genre is a subgenre of blues

you can't prove your argument.
Someone rapping over a beat doesn't make it hip-hop MUSIC.
Even sonically the 2 genres have barely anything in common.
there is nothing as droney, sludgy, and ceaseless as Parson Sound prior

The oldest known instrument was a flute made of bone dating back 67,000 years. So probably whatever neanderthal made that.

There are more subgenres in metal than there are genres outside of metal.
This isn't necessarily a good thing. I think it's a result of all the autism that's concentrated in the genre. It explains why things like Scandinavian Dinosaur Metal exist.

It's because every band decides to name their own sound as its own genre, of decide that each album they release is a different genre. Some cunt from my highschool once posted a screenshot of his itunes genre list and was like 'people say I only listen to one genre, but look at this, 240 genres, FAR more than your average music listener'. Literally every single genre had only one or two albums though. It's pretty crap
