Laughing Stock is not flawless. It has a few higher high points than Spirit of Eden but it also has lower low points. Spirit of Eden is perfectly rounded and balanced.

Laughing Stock has no low points. Even the worst track (New Grass) is still pretty good.
Spirit of Eden is more consistent in terms of mood and texture but if anything that's the downfall of the album. It feels tiring to listen to after a while whereas Laughing Stock has more variety and feels like an actual journey and not just a bunch of fairly similar songs.
