Looks good man. The only stripper I've found that even touches the thick sealer on chinese guitars is aircraft stripper but it will definitely eat up your binding. Just going to have to sand the rest unfortunately. You could try with a heatgun and a scraper but you'll have to be careful with the binding also.

I've never had to sand a guitar down to bare wood before. Every time I paint something I just rough up the surface so the paint will stick to it and I could do that again if I wanted but this is different because I'm going to stain it.
Either way sanding or paint thinner it doesn't represent a problem at all, I'm not going to stop working on this until it's finished.

Besides when you think too much about something you always end up not doing it.

My mother decided rather than giving me money for my birthday this year that she would surprise me instead.

I had been showing her pictures of random guitars I was thinking of purchasing. She obviously didn't give any fucks and humored me. Fast forward to my birthday. She went guitar shopping for me and decided to buy me a guitar.

The way she explained it to me, she walked into the shop, asked for help, pointed at one she thought looked pretty and bought this. She was in the shop for less than 10 minutes.

Its a Prestige version of a reissue. Apparently decently rare. Personally, I didn't like it at first but within the hour it grew on me hugely. I love it. Probably seems like a humblebrag but my problem is this.

I've only been playing guitar for a year. I can't shred. At all. I feel like people who have guitars like this, know what the fuck they're doing. I don't. I'm getting to the point where I'm starting to play with other people, and I don't know if I can whip this guitar out. It seems like a statement I can't back up. What do?

Yes, when I was learning jazz guitar many years ago that was a good chunk of my practice. I recommend Charlie Parker and Lester Young solos for getting down the basics. I think a big reason why so many jazz guitarists today sound alike is because they get their inspiration from copying other guitarists.

that is quite simple to do with the pentatonic as it has few notes

to not think about the scale forms you either have really good ear and just go completely by ear
or think of the intervals instead of the actual scale. then you see the intervals in the fretboard intstead of scale boxes

I've heard that Chicken Picks and Dragon's Heart picks are both extremely durable, but I want to know about common picks, too. How does ultem fare against delrin? For example, Dunlop's Ultex vs. Tortex. I always lose ultem picks before I can even use them. They just...vanish.

I found a 1.9mm Clayton Black Raven recently, and even though it's almost the same as Tortex, it somehow seems more durable. Anybody use those extensively?

I've been practicing a lot more recently to try and learn/improve my lead guitar skills. I started with pentatonic/major/minor scales and I feel like I know those three like the back of my hand now but I still feel kinda lost whenever I try to play an actual riff/tab by someone

What else should I be doing? Just metronome/improving speed and form with those?

Guys I just broke the high E on my acoustic, what are some good strings to buy?

I write for an indie emo lof-fi noise pop rock band, so anything that could help with that sound is what I'm looking for.

I'm assuming you mean guitar speakers for your combo/cab, not hifi speakers for a stereo system.

I actually really like warehouse speakers, they make quality knockoffs of well known speakers. Their price has went up since i started ordering from them, but you can get them for less than half the price of the equivalent celestion/emminence/whatever.

Enclosure does a lot to the sound too. Full backs have more boominess, open backs are more... i dunno, sharp, brittle, much more high end comes through. The larger the enclosure/less air movement will make a closed back less boomy. There are programs out there to calculate what frequencies are prominent depending on dimensions of the enclosure at the speaker.

Most old timers and some tone nerds say it doesn't matter unless it's a bass amp.

So I respond with a blog post of my own. Speakers are only part of the puzzle, and if your amp sounds bad you'll only be polishing a turd. I'd honestly rather play a nice amp through a shitty cab than a shotty amp with a cab designed for it with hyperspace tech engineering.

But in the end, you can make just about anything sound good enough.

I've seen peavey windsors for $300, you can find a 5150 for $500 if you drag the waters, $600 is about average. You can find a bad cab for $50 if you're willing to take something like a 410 from a shitty entry level amp(make sure impedances match). The nice thing about heads is you can get a better cab later.
