Everybody knows that Ellington was one of Mingus' main influences, but it sounds like Ellington's later music was influenced by Mingus as well.
I wonder if there are any other examples of this where Artist X influences Artist Y who influences Artist X later in his career.

how can I learn to completely grasp what's going on in a jazz track? I mean listening to a song and being able to see what all the different musicians are doing at the same time

key here is being able to listen to the instruments separately first - it really helps to see some jazz live because having the visual cues makes it much easier to tell instruments apart and also see the interplay between the musicians
