Whatever you have and -5 years of school
thats pretty much all you gotta do desu
- Learn how to actually make beats
then
- Listen to various hip hop artists and outfits to see if there's something you hear that you like, get ideas from it

i want to make some bangers boi

Do you need to know any music theory? If yes, I imagine only some fairly basic knowledge is required? How many hours would you estimate it takes (roughly) to get a "good enough" understanding of music theory stuff?

i'd say a year, maybe a bit less. i'm 5 months in producing (no musical background) and i still struggle to make more than 3 melodies and overall complex music

learn basic music theory over like 2-3 weeks, and you'll be able to shit out melodies
>>72414206
i know basic music theory, coherent complementary melodies are hard to make when you only have 5 months of experience..
>>72414204
that'd be tight

>i know basic music theory, coherent complementary melodies are hard to make when you only have 5 months of experience..
if it's hip hop, start the melody an either note after the downbeat for the most part. adds the all important syncopation. also stick to the pentatonic scale if you want something simple and catchy.

downbeat?
>also stick to the pentatonic scale if you want something simple and catchy
i prefer heptatonic scales and i manage to make simple and catchy melodies on them
>>72414482
>downbeat?
the first beat of a measure/bar. whatever works with you dude. good luck with the beats.
