Hey /gg/, i was thinking about buying a WMD Devices Geiger Counter. Would it be good for for noise rock and/or garage rock? Is the pro version better? Are there pedals on the market that would be better for the type of music i wanna play? If i cop it will i be overcompensating?

>>
>>72395819
Hmmm thats a good point. I do feel like the M-Bass is "long scale" at least when compared with other models.

I compared it to the "original" bass uke, the Kala U-Bass, and the Gold Tone is about half a foot longer scale. 25 inch scale length vs 20" scale length.

Im going for it, its only like $300

What are good examples of "natural" sounding 12-bar phrases besides the obvious blues? I've been so used to 16 bar phrases for so long but I keep seeing 12-bar and AAB song structure in looking up music theory but I can't find many examples due to 12-bar blues clogging up my searches.

Sam out, thanks /gg/ it's been a wonderful night, see you next time!
>>
>>72398228
??????
Why you acting like that? Why you dont want to talk about bars phrases and structure?
>>
>>72398180
It's not really unique to solos, just think of how a woodwind player will eventually have to breathe. That's a phrase, it's a portion of the music that has a start and and end within the overall piece. But better players will know to how to control this to compliment the music and give it motion, guitar player can translate this to their playing as well.

>>72400667

Does it really matter when it comes to the body?
>>
>>72400213
If you already have a bass why worry about it?
Get it set up and play it.

Some people don't like them because they're short scale, with tight string spacing; plus the small body can be awkward. It can be annoying for someone who's used to a regular fender style bass. Also, not everyone likes The sound, although I personally do like how it sounds recorded. Paul McCartney used one.....

>>72400164
Honestly part of me thinks this. 95% of people buying expensive instruments are oldfucks with way too much money who barely play. But I do have some friends who just bought nice instruments pretty early on and then didn't have to worry about all the annoying shit that comes with owning cheap gear

no. If you are capable or willing to dress frets the only crucial thing to consider is the neck. Everything else is just a question of value and how much time you want to put into it. Generally I don't want to have to replace the bridge, personally, but if the guitar is cool enough I'd still go for it.

Well my plan would be to replace the pickguard, electronics and neck so what I'd really be buying is the body and some of the hardware. It's surprisingly hard to find a yellow Strat body like that without going Warmoth - except for GFS, but those don't come drilled for the bridge and I don't have a drill press. And pricewise, factoring in GFS charging $50 in shipping to Canada, the chink Strat is actually more economical - as long as the picture isn't a fucking lie.
>>
>>72400842
honestly anyone who knows the value of money would probably just buy an MiM strat and then set it up themselves and maybe make some mods to it down the road.
>>
what if I wanted to make a 6-fret guitar? something like the pocketstrings but playable. or like the jamstik but not midi.

there's no way I can make the frets the same width as a normal guitar right?
>>
>>72401969
You might want to just repaint a strat that has the neck you want. It's not that hard to do.
>>
>>72402058
yeah, you'd probably want to use mandolin or uke frets. Guitar could work, but I think it would be less comfortable.
>>
Is taking formal lessons really that beneficial? Or is a dedicated practice routine all that you need? How many people here have a personal teacher?
>>
>>72401983
MIM strat is like what, $600? I don't see how that is good value at all.
>>
>>72402172
If you integrate time studying into your practice routine, practice is all you need.

The way I see it is that if you set it up well, you can get it to play about just as well as any American standard, and honestly most people who buy american standards replace the pickups anyway for something better. If you take out the money you would've spent on getting better pickups that you would replace anyway, then in my opinion it's a better deal.
>>
>>72402154

The neck I want is custom so that's not really an option.
>>
>>72402172
Depends on the person desu

I inherited an old Fender chinese strat from my dad that's an HSH, it's setup beautifully tho and plays like a dream. The pickups tho are obviously not of good quality. I'm thinking of blocking the tremolo and getting a loaded pickguard. Are loaded pickguards worth it if I'm gonna replace the pickguards and the pickups, or does it save a lot of money just buying a pickguard separately and soldering yourself.
>>
>>72402327
Price the pickguard and electronics separately then do some math and see which works out cheaper.

I have bought them before, but haven't built a partscaster for a while
>>
>>72402327
You can get better pickup choices in sets, but loaded pickguards may not have the set you really want.
>>
>>72402373
The loaded hot rails set is nearly identical if you bought them separately desu when you include the price of all the things it comes with so I think it's a good deal, I might end up getting it.
>>
>>72402165
the calculation puts the first fret at 21mm (for a scale length of 380mm). it's not THAT narrow, but having frets this tiny kinda defeats the purpose. I wanted to make a portable practice guitar.

lol, I did that! the tuners came misaligned. I complained and got 50% back, so it cost me sub $30. It took a lot of work (cuting nut lower, level frets, profile neck to be thinner) in addition to making the tuners line up but I learned a lot on the project. The pickups all measured about 2.5k ohms.

I live below the Great Wall of Trump so the cheapest guitar I can get from Ebay is this one, which is not bad considering it has the correct headstock, but it only has 21 frets and I hate those necks.

Talking about necks, do you know if yours has this gap here? When 22 fret necks don't have that it makes it a pain in the ass to install a Floyd.

It has the overhang, not that you can tell with the pickguard on. Basically a standard fender neck pocket. The photo in that auction appears to have a 22, weird.
>>

As long as it has that, you don't have to add wood to the edge of the pickup cavity to install the Floyd, so that's cool. I just wish that thing shipped to beanerland.

>The photo in that auction appears to have a 22
Yeah probably some chinese retard put up a picture of an already assembled guitar that's not even built from the kits he sells. The item description says it has 21 frets.

I have one of those exact floyds but in black. I think it was $15 shipped from Hong Kong, and work surprising well.

>>

>I think it was $15 shipped from Hong Kong, and work surprising well
Good to know because I took a chance and I ordered three of those last month.

My plan is to get three guitars and make one Frankenstrat, one Kirk Hammett Hamstercaster and one custom Superstrat. It's just hard to find strat copies with the correct Fender headstock and 22 frets for less than $150.

One of them doesn't matter because I plan to make a 4x2 headstock anyways, but still shipping is what fucks everything I have in mind.

Yeah, I have an SX furrian, an SX Ursa, A hadean 12-string, and I've had other rondos for a few months at a time. Obviously I am a fan of the brand, but SX and agile are the only real reliable brands. I heard Douglas is getting nicer these days though. The only Douglas guitars I've had are all discontinued. I am eyeing the 27" neck through for some classy baritone sounds.

I'm not opposed to other cheap guitar brands as well, but after finding SX there's not a ton of motivation to go looking for more, especially with rondo's return policy.

then why is he here?

I don't even like Clapton but he's considered a "God" because of his historical significance and contributions to Electric guitar music. He was right there with Hendrix in molding what would become modern rock lead guitar playing.
>>
>>72407027
He wanted a guitar for his 12th birthday, so he migrated here from /b/ for recommendations. That was like 2 years ago. I don't think he ever got one.
>>
>>72407050
wait, the master troll everyone is bitching about is only 14? why hasn't he been perma banned?
>>
>>72407035
No, he was called "god" for his playing on that album of John Mayall and Cream.

Nobody in 1967 thought "oh he is defining the modern rock lead guitar playing, he will be a mark in history, lets call him a god", it was just great to listen.

Then he went to the mellow Strat and his soloing lost all drive.

Around that, don't know when his birthday is(nor do I care), but this is the most recent picture of him, like a month old.

Everybody is getting so butthirt about a kid who has barely hit puberty. It's hilarious.

wtf go away old fart

You should have seen the last time he got banned and when his posts got removed more than half the thread was gone. Whenever you see a back and forth argument that makes no sense it's literally just him.
>>
>>72407080
We merely adopted the shitposting. He was born into it, molded by it.

He probably still does, he plays a fender. He's a twink.
>>
>>72407088
No one consciously thought it at the time, but it was obviously something they had never heard before and would turn out to be highly influential.

There were players at the time playing radical music in other styles (ex. Billy Bauer in the 40s/50s, Fred Frith in the 60s and 70s) but no one remembers them as gods because their style never caught on.

this. people will still be playing drums in 10 years. only people playing guitar will be white people at campfires.

I use a bass guitar, a microphone and two bags of mini pretzels to redefine the one man band genre.

no, i've been here for a long time and you show up and decide to post your shit in both places. seek help, and your music is boring. you're a decent bass player at best but you aren't doing anything interesting or innovative buy sitting and eating pretzels while you play a few chords.

You're such a big fan! Do you want me to sign something for you? Just post a picture and I'll reupload it signed with my signature. Just don't sell it on ebay, ok?

What's the math behind string spacing (nut spacing vs bridge spacing vs scale length)?
