I first discovered Ween when Ocean Man played during the credits of the spongebob movie. My friends and I were high off our asses when we watched it and it became a meme between us. Since then I started visiting /mu/ and have found people legitimately recommending a band that I only considered a meme.

Is there actually anything of substance there? Who do they sound similar to?

if your bag is Super Serious Brooding Music with Meaning like elliott smith/slint/swans etc you're probably not gonna get a lot out of ween. they're very fun though and one of the few bands i'd call truly eclectic in their approach to music
