True story is that Syd had a nervous breakdown from the added pressure of a US tour and record deals. You can't be "constantly tripping on LSD" like the history books claim Syd was, that's biologically impossible.

His head and eyebrows were freshly shaven for this appearance, so he was either trying to play up that he was "crazy" or he just wanted sympathy from his bandmates. Maybe he thought they would invite him back in... but they never did so he left and never spoke to any of them ever again. His sister and others he was close to swear that nothing was psychologically wrong with him despite what Roger Waters claims. He was just a guy relaxing and living out his life as a millionaire from royalty checks.
