I haven't heard this in full yet but if you want some material from this year which I figure will be similar in sound, check these out:

Group Doueh & Cheveu - Dakhla Sahara Session
Shackleton & Vengeance Tenfold - Sferic Ghost Transmits
Avec le Soleil sortant de sa bouche - Pas pire pop, I Love You So Much
Various Artists - Miracles Steps (fourth world compilation)
Oto Hiax - Oto Hiax
all these releases seek to introduce elements of the nature recordings into music, or fuse trad folk and rock. All great releases from this year, probably in the vein of Meeting of the Waters.
>>
>>72344864
I thought they fixed dl links already
>>

>>
>>72345059
Thanks for the recs anon! I love shackleton so I'll check out those releases for sure. Did you listen to the radio mix they did where they premiered man of oil? Some great artists that influenced meeting of the waters sound
>>
>>72338778
thanks a lot mang
>>
>>72345442
No I did not hear the radio mix, though I have been searching for a rip of it. Do you remember any artists they included?
>>
>>72345522
Here's the tracklist for Geo's mix:

Arthur Verocai - Caboclo
Marconi Notaro - Ah Vida Avida
Climax Golden Twins - Chopstick Chopstick (excerpt)
Marinho Castellar - Pedra
Piccinelli, Gales, & Maioli - Amazonia 6891 (excerpt)
Os Mutantes - O Relogio
Luc Ferrari - Presque Rien No.2 B (excerpt)
Ariel Kalma - Forest Ballad
Kemuli String Band - Kemuli
Nelson Angelo E Joyce - Comunhão
Francois Bayle - La Fleur Future (excerpt)

Definitley will be stuff in there you would dig!

>>
>>72338778
Anyone know if this is getting another release, and if so what the details are on it?
It's on the "RSD first" part of the list on the website, so is this just a first pressing or will it be a RSD vinyl + later download sort of deal?
>>
>>72345609
Geo seems to love Brazil
>>
>>72346139
Probably just the first pressing. Prospect Hummer was a RSD2015 exlusive but you can find them everywhere now.

i think it's less panda himself and more the fact that panda is so distant and far removed from the rest of the band

both literally in that he's on another continent
and figuratively in a way that i'm not 100% certain of yet
>>
>>72347292
Yeah that makes sense. I still like his solo stuff but collective albums with him don't seem to work as of recently

I highly disagree with this statement. Both ODDSAC and TTG did the ambient collage with minimal song structure thing way more polished and infinitely better. Avey's guitar progressions and playing on this were very, very basic. That isn't to say it's bad, by no means do I mean that. I just think ODDSAC and TTG take their ambient style to it's peak. While MOTW is DEFINITELY very reminiscent of TTG, it does feel like it's lacking in actual musicality even during Avey's guitar playing and singing. Perhaps that was the point...

I just really want my MP3 download to work dammit, I have a feeling this will sound a lot different with higher quality. I know there is a lot of low and high end frequency shit going on in this.

The songs on this remind me of stuff like:
>Darkness from TTG
>Call Home (Buy Grapes) from the Keep EP
>Jailhouse from the Keep EP
>Foetus No Man from Pullhair Rubeye
>Must be Treeman, can't recall what release it's from, but there is definitely a lot of sound warping and distortion that closely resembles it on MOTW

As far as song writing and musicality with ambient backing though, I got to say, Deakin killed it with Sleep Cycles. The two are comparable in a sense but I've really grown to love Deakin's recent works, especially Harpy (Red/Blue) and Golden Chords. The guy needs to seriously write more folky tunes, he's phenomenal at it.
>>
>>72347357
it's record store day
>>
>>72346538
What I want is a Deak & Geo album, sort of a counterpart to Sung Tongs.
>>
>the background keyboard in Blue Noses that isn't in the same key as Avey's guitar and singing
YES
>>
>>72347292
Possibly the fact he has kids and a wife and lives in a completely different culture now in Portugal. I think Panda is being more influenced by the dance sound of Portuguese clubs or something. He's been doing a lot more electronic stuff lately, really grooving. I don't know that it's HIM holding the band back though. I think the band as a whole just wanted to toy around with the ideas from Painting With. I think this is a pretty good indicator that they're wanting to go back to live instrumentation a bit more stripped down with their next album possibly. Especially after seeing how well received this will be, maybe it will encourage them to do more stuff like it.

I don't know, I thought his latest was kinda shit. I definitely prefered CHz & Painting With to it.

I'm very capable of forming my own opinion, I am just saying their most successful, well known album was without Deakin...I am totally with you on your opinion of music reviews and critics. I don't read them or care about them. But it does drive the popularity and relevancy of an album. Which is why PW and Centipede Hz both got panned.
>>
>>72348293
I'd agree with that. His last good album was Tomboy and even that was miles behind Person Pitch.

but the drumming is equally as important. David wrote the STGSTV songs at a very young age. Thats impressive. But to say that He is the only reason the album is great is stupid. Listen to Chocolate Girl. Noah made the song imo

Sung Tongs had neither of them. I'll admit I underestimated Deakin though. I'd like the next album to be Deak, Avey, and Geo, with the production quality of PW, or anything from ST-Oddsac really.
