Imagine actually being Samuel. Imagine waking up in the morning in your tin shack in a third world shantytown, looking in the piece of shiny scrap metal that you use as a mirror and realizing that you have to spend the next twenty-four hours being Samuel and playing that tenth rate plywood Les Paul through a broken amplifier and pretending to be Ace.

you can do better than that. I actually own a Jazzmaster but I don't see how anyone could think that's the best guitar design. I won't go as far as to say you're WRONG but it definitely sounds like you don't know much about guitars if you say that.

Standard works well enough. Or perfect fourths if you want to eliminate the b string anomaly. Or tritone tuning if you want to make it super easy and not have to move up a fret for each string change.

But would you really want to play whole tone scales that often?

Anyone ever heard of Theo's chord generator? I found it when I started on banjo, but it has options in the top left for guitar, mandolin, ukulele, and mandola, but you can pretty much turn it into any stringed instrument with the tuning part so I can even use it on my 7 string. Here's the link, showing off that it can show scales with the basic 7 chords but with multiple versions of each chord, put a capo on it, and shows every note you can use within the scale that you want to work on. Its a really great site with pretty much everything you could possibly need other than some exotic scales.
http://chordgen.rattree.co.uk/?instrument=guitar&tuning=E,A,D,G,B,E&scale=ion&alt=2&capo=3&handed=right&offset=0&fixenharm=on&prefersf=&chord=G&quality=&showscale

I learned 90% of what I know from this site, only played for about 4 years and I basically strictly improvise nowadays. Seriously check the site out. It doesn't give you any tips so you kind of have to figure it out on your own, but this site has everything you really need in my eyes to become a good guitarist.

Just don't buy a vintage tele, there is no point. Vintage radius fretboards suck and choke out when bending. Guitars that old have issues more than not. Get a new tele for like $150 or $300 or something with a 12" radius and put in a 50s style pickup.
>>
What a dumb thread. Why does anyone here give a shit how the guitar looks? Can't we give each other tips or ask for advice?
>>
>>72331188
>Mighty Mite

I made a Mighty Mite partscaster once, never again. Neck didn't fit right in the neck pocket, kept angling off to one side so the high E was nearly off the edge of the board. Ended up giving the guitar to my brother and never missed it.
>>
>>72331212

>>72331228
I have a Mighty Mite Tele with a flawless setup and it's great. I didn't make it myself, but my friend/ best local guitar tech built it for me. All the parts are American.
>>
>>72331241
What? I want to be able to bend without losing dynamic range. I don't need a vintage radius to play chords or to get my thumb around the neck because I don't have tiny trump hands.
>>
>>72331222
Everyone cares what their guitar looks like even if they like to pretend they don't. Looks are important. If you want to talk about playing, no one's stopping you

It's a 1984 Tokai Breezysound with all original parts (pgraded pots and cap though). The quality is just barely lower than my american jazzmaster but it's on par with most american fenders I guess. The only thing holding it back is the quality of the pickups, they're mid-tier overall. They compress REALLY nicely though with gain so I'm not going to swap them.

The neck is great though, really makes the instrument. Nice small radius, vintage frets. Not usually a fan of flamed maple but I like it on this guitar. Almost as good as a $1500 guitar and I got it for less than half of that.
>>
>>72331269
What's the best way to transition from open keys to harder keys? I've been stuck in E minor, C major, and D major for something like a year. I really wanna learn an easy one like E major or F major but no matter what I do I can't make it sound good.
>>
7.5 inches is the perfect neck radius. I dont fucking understand all these 12 inch bitches and their fag ass metal bends
>>
>>72331309
>bend without losing dynamic range

... what? dynamic range is the difference between the loudest and quietest sounds, wtf has that got to do with the radius? the usual objection to the tight vintage radius is that string bends choke as the string moves across the humpo in the middle of the fretboard, unless you jack the action up high.
>>
>>72331359
>What's the best way to transition from open keys to harder keys
What does that even mean?
>>
>>72331375
pity no one's ever made a guitar with that radius then
>>
>>72331376
He's a little bitch, many guitarrists did god tier bends on vintage strats and this fag says that its not possible, ignore his ass
>>
>>72331388
Every open note on the guitar can be hit within the key. In D major, E minor, and C major the notes E A D G and B are all in those scales, making it really easy to fuck around with.
>>
7.25 > 9.5 > 14 > 10 > 12
>>
>>72331415
Huh. I had somehow never heard of that before.
>>
>>72331330
Gibson has 12"? Anyways you can pull off plenty of bends, but the fact is you can't strum very hard while bending unless you crank your action up to compensate. What that means in effect is that you must play more softly while bending. Reverse bends in particular don't work as well without compression unless you happen to want to play quietly.

It might be nitpicking but I don't see why I would get a vintage radius just to make open chords more comfortable. I'd rather have nice sounding bends without compression or a volume pedal.

2MB, 3072x1728px
I had the radius on this Tele planed down from 7.25 to 9,5 inches, totally transformed the guitar. I hardly used to play it before, now it's in regular use.
>>
>>72331415
I don't get it. You don't have to play the open strings, it's not difficult
>>
>>72331435
Yeah, I've been playing in those three scales for about a year and I've pretty much combined every note and chord together in some fashion so I'm honestly running out of ways to play in those scales, and I really wanna learn how to play E major but since you can't play D or G in that scale, it makes it a little tough to make anything I play sound good.
>>
>>72331376
String bends choke is akin to having lower action when bending. Lower action has a smaller dynamic range before buzzing out.

I just bought a vox ac10 and it's a great amp imo but some friends have said it'd be a good decision to replace the tubes in it because vox stock tubes are usually garbage and buying mesa boogie tubes really make it sound better. Do tubes really affect the sound of an amp that much?
>>
>>72332287
I'm no expert but most tubes are made by the same couple of companies. Unless you have some shitty no name tubes I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm sure someone will tell me I'm wrong though.

>>72332319
>I'm sure someone will tell me I'm wrong

>>72332319

You are absolutely correct. There are only four factories in the world still making tubes - Tesla (JJ tubes), Svetlana (Winged C), Saratov (Tung-Sol) and Shuguang (Chinese shit tier tubes)

Any Fender, Marshall, whatever brand tubes are made in one of these factories and stamped with a different manufacturer name.

Va = Anode voltage

EL34s can theoretically be run at up to 800V on the anodes. Modern amps usually are closer to 550V as current tube production isn't as good as the old ones (no, really). I've got a Sound City 120 from the 1970s with the original Mullard EL34s in the back, those will handle 800V easily but the Chinese shit tubes with arc over and die.

6V6 isn't comparable in anode dissipation, you probably meant 6L6 there.

Well it definitely starts C Lydian since it hangs on the C and occasionally hits the D. Once the full thing drops in I suppose it'd turn to E minor since that E feels like a resolution in the middle of the progression.

Or you could change up the intro with a different lead interpretation since it's so vague and play something else like C harmonic minor over it before dropping into E minor

if you are a complete beginner it will serve you well enough if you play at home, but still at the same price you should get a straight forward solid state amp because they are so much better. also if you are willing to save a bit more money you should get a hybrid or a tube amp.

Guitar center has the Jet City Amplification JCA5012C on sale right now for 400 bucks and I'm thinking of trading in my old piece of shit Mustang III amp for it. Are Jet City amps any good? Whatever it is it has to be better than mustang though. I have a Vox with a big muff and a scarlett overdrive but it doesn't quite get a heavy tone so I think this would be a nice amp to have, assuming it's actually good.

How do you guys stay motivated to practice?

I just bought a Zoom B3 so I can actually play in my apartment without disturbing the neighbours, plus it is good for recording and the effects are fun

But every time I pick up my bass I feel like I'm sort of lost looking for new stuff to play. Apart from Songsterr, and various garbage tab sites, there's virtually zero music written down on paper for bass guitar. 90% of tabs that are out there are dadrock/dadjazz/dadblues. Practically none of the music I actually listen to on a daily basis has any sort of music available.

Is this just a symptom of pop musicians being mostly musically illiterate and therefore themselves not relying on written music to play anything?

In this band. Contributed some things to this song, but we are all incompetent as far as choosing a right distortion/OD pedal for the guitars. Right now we are using Fulltone Fulldrives for live settings. They work alright, but I'm looking for something a little less......brittle. The recording was all DI and mixed by a guy that isn't alive anymore. I should add that we are all competent at playing the material itself, just not eqing/choosing appropriate pedals/amps.

I'm in a position where I can't even get a teacher, I live in the middle of nowhere. I have to drive 50 miles every couple of months just to get new strings, I don't want to have to do that three-four times a week.

Besides I play guitar to relax and procrastinate, if I have to do it forcefully because I'm spending money on a teacher then it starts feeling like a chore and it'll become something I don't wanna do anymore. That's just the kind of piece of shit I am.

>>
>>72344815
In that case, if you don't know major scale you should learn that. You already learned pentatonic so you should be able to do this no problem. Once you know the shapes and ideas behind major scale you will have an actual usable foundation. Then learn your modes and try to learn some chord theory. If you look up these terms individually, and actually give it a college try, you should be able to learn it. Getting a looper of some kind will help your practice immensely. Once that's done start learning how everything goes together and start writing your own music NOT just improvising it. That will solidify everything for you.

That's a start. Everything else is mostly a modification of those main ideas.

Okay so the whole used guitar thing didn't work out. I decided it was not worth it to risk getting mugged for a used guitar.
So I'm still hunting for a project guitar, that LTD got me in the mood for some Metallica though, it would be fun to try to make a replica of the Flying V that Hetfield got in the 80's (white).
Since that particular guitar was a fake to begin with, it has a bolt on neck, so I can probably get away with using a DIY guitar kit for this.

Any of you cunts know a good website to order those [that has decent prices on worldwide shipping], that has Flying V kits?

Also, if I do end up doing this shit should I go with the original version that had a stock neck humbucker and a bridge Seymour Duncan Invader or the current version that has EMGs?

There's nothing really satisfying out there if you're looking for an authentic synth sound, and the better ones can get pretty costly(as far as pedals go). If you're looking for atmospheric pad sounds I'll let you in on one of my oldest tricks. Doesn't work well live unless you have a looper.

Harmonics, volume swells, fuzz, delay, multi tracking.

Depending how intricate you want it to get you can use capos or artificial harmonics and layer several tones to create intricate chords.

If you want them uniform just record the harmonics DI, clean, no swell. Use a gate to bring them in at the same rate, then use an effects send to run them through some dirt, modulation if you want it, and delay. I prefer delay to reverb for this, since you lose the pick attack with the swell it doesn't sound like typical delay, is just sounds like it's sustaining(and reverb can get muddy with this). If you want a more traditional synth sound and have a delay plug in like super tap 6 you can actually create three groups of repeats, and then slightly detune 1 from each group.

I've been able to get some crazy sounds doing stuff like that, but it's still not as versatile as a real synth or a midi controller and a range of virtual instruments.

led zeppelin solos are pentatonic noodling

What's the best neck / fingerboard material and why? Looks don't count as quality, only as a bonus.

Both fucking suck because technically oriented bullshit, also shit audio.
Fuckin' tell me "a story with the solo". It's not about wanking in your living room, it's about telling a about the thing why you wank. You both can do better than this.

I have an acoustic with very high action (4.5mm at the 12th fret), should I put an electric-style bridge on it?
>>
>>72350834
sweet halfstep bend at 3:38

>>72351186
if you just want to lower the action why you dont just fucking sand the bone bridge you fucking piece of retardation
that electric guitar bridge would change the acoustic's guitar tone, have you researched to see if you would like that change?
>>
>>72351081
anyone can do that with a song or a chord progression
noodling for beautiful notes is enough when wanking at home
>>
>>72351186
no
>>
>>72351217
Because that would give me 0.5-1.5mm at most depending on string, and I want them really low. With an electric bridge I can easily adjust each to my preference.

>have you researched to see if you would like that change?
nigga this is a $50 guitar, I don't even care. I just don't want to throw it away. but yes I probably would considering I'm also planning to add a neck humbucker to it at some point.

>>72351355
why,
>>
>>72351368
The bridge for an electric guitar works very differently from the bridge for an acoustic. That metal bridge won't transfer string vibration into the top. And there isn't enough wood on the top of an acoustic to screw a bridge onto, same as the anon who asked about the Bigsby.

>>72348052
>>
>>72351368
hmm cool
are you sure you dont want the sound of humbucker with regular bone bridge?

>>
>>72351533
i bet hes of the same height as the stack and the bass
when he plays the bass it looks like a +
>>
>>72351571
Probably has to strap the bass high on his chest so he can reach the low notes
>>
>>72351500
>That metal bridge won't transfer string vibration into the top.
I'll add a neck pickup to it as well. Unplugged I just want it to be loud enough for me to practice on it (that is, not at all really).

>And there isn't enough wood on the top of an acoustic to screw a bridge onto
well yeah oviously, I will be just glueing it on like you would a normal bridge.

>>72351516
>are you sure you dont want the sound of humbucker with regular bone bridge?
err idk, I mostly want to play warm crunchy bluesy stuff on this one.

btw forgot to mention the original bridge also seems to be lifting.

how you will glue a metal bridge?

you know the lack of vibration transfer affects the sound that comes out of pickup too dont you
>>
>>72351897
>how you will glue a metal bridge?
epoxy is probably my safest bet I think

>you know the lack of vibration transfer affects the sound that comes out of pickup too dont you
so what am I in for exactly? less sustain?

meanwhile, the people who created the blues were playing on a broomstick with one string of farm wire attached to it, and here we are arguing like retards on a japanese animation forum.
