agreed. gothic metal and death-doom has aged like milk. no surprise most of the big bands from that scene gave up on it almost two decades ago now (i.e. tiamat, the gathering, katatonia). anathema's metal albums are particularly bad, though. early katatonia and the gathering is still listenable

mandylion is the exception to the rule. I agree, it's a great album. wildhoney is good precisely because it isn't run of the mill death-doom

I was just listening to Anathema 5 minutes ago. I remember when Weather Systems used to get posted here occasionally. God-tier album.

While Distant Satellites may not be as good, Take Shelter is the best closing song they've ever done. Top 5 Anathema song for me.

I never heard their last album, I'll give it a listen. Weather Systems was great, Untouchable might be their best work. Corny lyrics though, but the buildup is good enough that they get away with it
