Varg actually wrote about that as being a big part of why he doesn't make metal anymore. He said he doesn't make folk music because he doesn't think he has anything only he can do to add to it, though he says he enjoys folk music. He's been making pagan ambient and spoken word since he stopped making black metal, although raising his 5 or so children is more of a priority for him now.
