I've always felt like The Edge was so out of place in this movie. It should have been just Jack White and Jimmy Page jamming. Or if they would have brought in someone with actual talent from the 80's or 90's it would have been better.

Ah so you didn't even watch the movie. Good to know.

I was in California and I happened to run into him at a local diner. He was sitting alone and it looked like he'd only just started eating, so I decided to just go up and say hi (if his friends were there I would have just let him be). Anyway, I walk up and say hello and tell him I know him from U2. Nothing. No reaction. Doesn't say a word. He just sits there, staring right through me. Staring intensely, but with no emotion whatsoever.

I begin to feel awkward, so I say "sorry to disturb you" and start to walk away but before I even get a chance to turn he just gets up suddenly and starts walking toward me, still making full eye contact. At first I thought he was going to try and barge into me or something, but at the last minute (like an inch away from me) he turns and heads toward the trash can. Then he starts dumping everything on his plate into it. One by one. Potatoes, carrots, everything. He picks up each bit of food up, holds it high above the can and drops it. Some of it (the steak) didn't even make it into the trash because he wasn't looking at what he was doing.

Finally his plate is empty and this is the part that really ****ing weirded me out. He looks around to check no one (but me) is looking, then slides the plate under his jacket and walks out.

I was just astounded, it was pretty surreal.

The edge is the only likable person in that movie. His backstory was the most interesting and made me give a shit about him. That's how i got into U2.

The nickname was inspired in the beginning by the sharp features of his face, but it also applied to his sharp mind and the way he always observed things from the edge.

It's real simple. Dude is a rich, famous musician (read: "hack") that still can't come to terms with the fact that he is bald.
Pretty sad, really.
>>
>>72309638
Really? Because there's some great Jack White moments in there like when he builds the guitar or teaches them how to play Seven Nation Army or when he plays Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground.

The Edge comes in with this huge guitar rig and all these effects pedals and it makes him seem like such a fucking hack. He literally gets them to play two fucking notes for a while as shown in that video.

Jimmy and Jack were fun to watch while the Edge was like, "LOOK AT ALL MY EFFECTS PEDALS AND LET ME TALK ABOUT HOW IRELAND WAS SO HORRIBLE WITH ALL THAT WAR".

>>

Because if Bono stands too close to him he'll fall off the stage

U2 is what everyone refers to the members that aren't Bono and the Edge.
>>
Best Edge was 1990 Edge when he went down to the record shop and picked up "Isn't Anything" and KMDFM records
>>
>>72309425
Yeah keeping your personal and work life separate is retarded. People do it so they can have privacy, think about your fav bands and wonder if they're really named what they say they are. Like "Deron Miller" from cKy or "Lauren mayberry" those are probably not their real names. Somtimes a last or first name is changed, but some create a whole name to go by. It's done for a reason.

I mean, yeah Radiohead were big U2 fans. This is common knowledge:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imtSibPnTPE (see 1:30)

http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2001/08/20/the-searchers
>He was excited about playing at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, in the foothills of the Rockies. “Basically, we’ve had a fantasy scenario of r-re-enacting U2 live at Red Rocks,” he said. “We watched the video a million times when we were kids and know every frame. ‘This song is not a rebel song!’ “
>>
>>72310442
Not really. The Bends was their wannabe U2 album.
>>
>>72310532
OK Computer definitely takes influence from Achtung Baby/Zooropa/Passengers though. If U2 hadn't successfully reinvented themselves and experimented with more electronic influences, I doubt Radiohead would have followed the same trajectory they did.
>>
>>72310601
>I doubt Radiohead would have followed the same trajectory they did.
Except they were more influenced by Can and Warp Records stuff. So yeah, they probably would have with or without U2.

It didn't help them though, Radiohead music is completely York's music, it's all about his psycho issues, insecurities, mostly deppressive and dillusional, no fun.
Coldplay were big fans of U2(Homecoming) and a forgotten brilliant band Travis, thats why they became the new U2, as great as they are, while Radiohead is pretty undergroung band for outsiders, creeps, if you like.

You now remember that in 1983, The Edge of U2 collaborated with Jah Wobble of Public Image Ltd, Jaki Liebezeit and Holger Czukay of Can, New York disco producer François Kevorkian, and composer Arthur Russell on the "Snake Charmer" LP. The title track would become a regular staple of influential New York City nightclub, the Paradise Garage.

Truly based.

Radiohead had one good record.

OK Computer is one of the top 20 records of the 1990's. But I think their other work is largely drab and forgettable aside from a few standout tracks.

They don't belong in the same book as U2 let alone the same page.
>>
>>72311109
Come on man. U2 and Radiohead are both pretty good
>>
>>72309389
Is it just me or is he playing an even SIMPLER version of I Will Follow? It actually sounds kind of neat on the record but here it sounds hilarious. Even worse when he's with those guys. Which is sad, because he is a great guitarist, but I guess he thought it was a good idea to play a gimped version of one his simplest early riffs.
>>
>>72311443
No clue.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUjvK916kOM

He's not a bad guitarist by any means. Certainly not the most technical, but he gets a great sound out of his instrument.
>>
>>72309510
He's a great guitarist, but he's a post punk guitarist who, because U2 got so big, gets held to the same standards as a usual arena guitar hero like Page even though he's not actually about that at all. He should be alongside someone like Kevin Shields.
>>
>>72310011
Everyone is known for hating U2 - I suppose that's why mu loves them now
>>
>>72311479
Agreed, he's in my top ten. He just didn't belong with them in that movie, he's not really an arena guitarist even if he plays in them.
