Marty has transcended weebdom. He's turned his love of all things Japan into linguistic fluency, writes domestic Japanese music, and has become a household name in Japan as a 50+ year old Jewish dude.

He's living the dream.

For chorus the EHX Small Clone and the Boss CE-2w are pretty much the standards. Anything more expensive is probably getting into more experimental choruses.

Fuzz is a matter of taste, there's everything from thin and buzzy to fat sounding, and weird noisy shit. I would get a Big Muff to start out with, check out Chicago Stompworks their Big Muff clones sound way better than what EHX currently produces.

Look at the frets....unless you can do guitar repair I would skip out on it. If the frets are in that shape I can only imagine the neck is totally fucked, how does that even happen?

Framus' archtops are actually pretty good though, would be worth up to $600 if it was in good working condition

Redpill me on cheap electric guitars (<$550, Squiers, low end MIM Fender, Epiphones etc) /gg/, if I find one that's comfortable to play, and pair it with a good amp (>$500?), will I sound good? I'm convinced that tonewood is bullshit when it comes to electrics, so I don't care about that.

>>72307960
Find ine that plays nice, swap pickups to something nice, maybe change tuners and bridge, can easily be a well playable guitar with little effort.

Your amp will make a bigger difference overall.
>>
>>72307844
The frets themselves might not be a hard repair (you could probably do it yourself (glue +clamps) but I would bet anything the neck is unplayable I have no idea how that would even happen.

For that guitar I wouldn't pay more than $100 desu.
>>

Tonewood is not a meme. I upgraded everything on a cheap basswood strat and it doenst sound like a good strat.
At the same time i have another cheap guitar with upgraded pups and stock cheap bridge that sounds decent.
Cheap electrics really can be good, it is possible. You have to look up the model youre after on google and see if their wood is decent and overall construction.

He was good, really good, but Marty was always better.

Depends if you want a nitro finish or not, the MIM Classic 50s Laqcuer feels pretty much like an MIA guitar but still has the cheap Mexican pickups. If you don't care about the finish go for a ST57tx since it comes with USA Texas Special pickups.
>>
>>72308399
what differs on these pickups?
standard pickups arent good enough? like a 57/62 set, theyre great, whats above them

its not that i care much about strat pickups as much as i care to get a super distortion original from the 70s that has a magnet of slightly different composition due to the magnet builders of the time, and arent wax potted
>>
>>72308427
I always get really jealous when I see the cool shit that Fender Japan sells. You can still get it over here but it's less convenient.
>>
>>72308289
Actually the reason why his story is so sad is that he was literally the, THE, single best musician to ever touch a guitar that happened to be struck down before even reaching his prime. Nobody else had even nearly as much touch or influence on exactly how each note should sound, and nobody had as much technical ability while also being able to convey that much emotion. He was the ideal guitar player. A musician that comes along once maybe every 150 years.
>>

Ace Frehley does. You can see he feels the groove and the melody going around and building a climax, hooks etc, its an awareness

All guitars are factory line trash. Just get a cheap guitar and set it up right. Anything with a decent neck will sound good with a setup and pickups.
>>
>>72308517
I thought it was common knowledge that G&L was better than Fender. G&L is what Fender was supposed to be, but Leo sold it and it went to shit without him. G&L is what Leo Fender intended Fender to be.

>>72308574
Because they're not as popular as Fender since you're paying for the name when you get a Fender, with G&L you're paying for the quality, but no one cares about that. It's the same reason people are still paying that much for Gibsons in the current year, it's got the name on the headstock.

I wouldnt mind having a 6 just for guests to use or when I try to teach people songs. The 7 always fucks them up for some reason, even if I call out the chords lmao.

Anyone here a drummer as well? Been fucking around with kits for years, just got my first kit yesterday(shit electric, does the job so far) and I need shit to play. I already know rudiments from drumline years ago; been practicing them and fills to a metronome, and I can keep a beat no problem. I just need more shit to play. I want to eventually move to stuff like stevie wonder, funkadelic, nomeansno, melvins, but all of that has too much going on right now. Been drudging through easy shit, chili peppers(1997 on), police, pink floyd, stp, even fucking audioslave. I remember the first danzig album being hardly anything besides straight forward beats, going to try that but I'm not exactly into that either. Been looking up lists but they all just keep going back to AC/DC. Tried Black Sabbath but the fills are just all over the place, too much for me to keep up with.

Eventually I want to move to Brazil to play in Sammy's kiss tribute band.
>>
>>72310600
Except for when it's not. Take the Dead Island theme for example. Depressing as fuck, but definitely in the key of Gb major, not Eb minor
>>
>>72310686
I never liked fender, until i owned one. It became my main guitar for pop, funk, hip hop, and soul gigs. For punk, metal, and basically anything rock I was doing I still used my gibson(muh humbuckers) but I occasionally even use my fender for that.

2009 American Tele, bought used from a buddy for $450. I always thought they were ugly as fuck, but it really grew on me.

Gibson is an SG, never knew the year. I only know the Tele's cause the guy that sold it to me said the year all the time.

As always, try before you buy.

No doubt, even actually learning to play bass(not just copying the guitar) made my playing 1000 times better, im more rhythmic and in time than I was before. Potentially. True bypass is nice because if your battery or power supply dies you can switch the effect off and it'll pass signal. Buffered bypass needs power to work. A shitty buffer will begin taking away some of your high end but it won't really be noticeable. Several in a row may be noriceable. True bypass won't help you push long cable runs, and you may start to lose that same highend after more than 20ft of cable. A buffer boosts the signal allowing it to travel through the cable less altered. A lot of people now are buying a tone of true bypass pedals and still adding an independant buffer at the front of their chain. Also, since it's become so common now evidence is starting to show that the 3pdt switches used to for true bypass and an indicator led wear out faster than an equivalent dpdt switch. This makes me think that the next big thing will be the millenium bypass(one of the well known pedal guys figured it out, want to say rg keen) that uses a dpdt with a jfet to power and led and give an unaltered signal.

It's just trendy now, you'll only notice shit buffered pedals which are less and less common as the years go buy and old gears dies. Boss buffer is alright, people actually like the centaur(the original soul food basically) buffer and have cloned the buffer stage for independant buffers.

Like the other anon said, it's marketing. There's something to it, bit it doesn't affect practicallity.

Post famous guitarists with horrible technique.

Bonus points for johnny, if you hear something that's not power chords he didn't play it. And after the first couple albums he might not even have played that. There's at least one album he didn't hear before it was finished.

johnny didnt use power chords, he used full barre chords - if you hear a band cover the ramones and it sounds off it is because of this (and also the fact that they incorporate upstrokes)

also, im gonna get roasted for saying this but being able to play that fast, for that long at a time, with all downstrokes, is just as difficult as a technique as any other sans the virtuoso shit that everyone here jerks off over
>>

Tesco vee was getting some well enough known 80s guys for a while, and the meatmen arent nearly as well known as the misfits. I like him though. How the fuck do I get rid of the buzz on an electric guitar? I've gone through all the youtube tutorials I could find and tried just about everything short of fucking with the truss rod, cause the way mine's built requires you to remove the strings in order to do it.

I've got a Harley Benton, which is basically a knockoff of a Fender strat. Tried raising the bridge, tried messing with the individual thingies on it, my strings are brand new, nothing seems to be warped or loose, I have no fucking idea why I've had this since I changed the strings.

Capo at the 1st fret, hold down the low E string at the last fret and a 0.010 to 0.012 feeler gauge should just squeak under the string at the 9th fret, touching the fret and the string without appreciably lifting the string.
>>

best to watch a couple videos on YouTube. Or, you can move the bridge until the upper frets don't buzz, then loosen the truss rod until the lower frets don't buzz.

But yeah, knowing more can't hurt you so check out some videos

the best way of explaining this is if your neck is backbowed the strings will always buzz because they dont have enough room to vibrate

if you have alan keys laying around shove one in the truss rod nut and turn left. it sounds like you have an inexpensive guitar so im not too worried about permanent damage

>>
>>72313447
its difficult to do any real damage when you turn left. and mind you this is in relation to the angle you are viewing the neck at, but i doubt this strat copy has a truss rod at the bottom of the neck

the scariest thing to me for a long time was touching a guitar's truss rod, but i quickly realized that unless you crank the thing to the right it is not going to break. since then i've saved hundreds of dollars by not having to take new guitars to a guitar tech.

Literal springs, which connect the plate to a second plate, which is held in place by two screws. And said screws are a bitch and a half to turn, due to the tension.
