Enough with the 80s rehash shit already. Everywhere I look in music it's all about "le ebin 80s xxxddd!!!11", the new Paramore song being the most recent example.

Aren't we supposed to be in the 90s music revival now - isn't the "nostalgia cycle" supposed to be 20 years? Didn't 80s nostalgia already happen in the 2000s? Why do we keep rehashing the fucking 80s and turning them into a meme when the "nostalgia cycle" for them expired eight years ago?

We really should've moved on by now anyway
What else is there to revive about the 80s?
>>
>>72306937
Maybe they like 80s stuff? I was born in the early 90s, I'll be damned if in 20 years I created something 90s related for no other reason than my own enjoyment and some snot nosed whippersnapper like yourself bitched because "you're not following the proper schedule!!!! Snother 90s revival is not due for at least 17 years my friend, it's all part of the cycle!"

Really the 80s thing is back in swing because we already dismissed the 60s, 70s, and just finished with the 90s, which in itself was pointless since certain aspects never left. It's too early for the 00s still, and with the current socio-political atmosphere the 80s are on thier way to being envogue again. That's good too because im working on some hi-nrg tracks.

>It's too early for the 00s still
I think they're creeping in.

Over the past few years, and especially the past few months, we've seen revivals of Series of Unfortunate Events, Samurai Jack, Invader Zim, That's So Raven, Prison Break, Captain Underpants, Gorillaz, 2006 Motorola phone re-release, Anchorman 2 even though it sucked, Finding Dory, Arrested Development's 2013 revival, 2000 Nokia phone re-release, to name a few
>>
Can't say I was expecting the new song to be what it was but I also never listened to their S/T so maybe it builds off of that or something. I didn't hate this track though. Wasn't in love either but I could stomach it.

The 80s was the decade when capitalism ruled supreme and blatant kitsch was seen as fashionable. It didn't end up until the 90s underground kicked in the nuts, which left capitalism running in circles confused and punching itself in the face trying to come up with something fresh and new to make the youngers loosen up again. So yeah, go figure.

There's nothing substantial to revive about the 90s.

I can see in like 15, 20 years the 90s-00s being viewed through the nostalgia goggles as this campy blur of Avril Lavigne and Smash Mouth videos and early stage CGI shit like I'm Blue but besides that there's no particular mood or atmosphere to be derived from that era.
>>
>>72307074
You could argue at that point that it never really left us, since a nice chunk of people never forgot that stuff, but you can also blame the internet, since the 00s was the first full decade with the internet in it's semi-current form and it obviously changed the way people perceive time and culture

I'm still waiting for the big beat and nu jack swing revival to happen.

You seriously can't derive any mood or atmosphere from these videos?

This review is hilarious in hindsight.

>To be fair, I'm not sure that anyone could have predicted a sudden, abundant upswing in fake cop show theme electro over the last three years-- not to the extent that we got it, anyway-- but I guess that's what happens when you spend too much time as a culture fixating on "Grand Theft Auto", "Miami Vice", and the relative merits of Giorgio Moroder. Thankfully, we're in the hangover stage of that particular long weekend, which means that not only is France's Kavinsky at the wrong party, he's late to it.

I think it's mostly due to vaporwave's inception, which eventually caused interest in synthwave and other genres. however the way this happened was completely fucked:
>original vaporwave artists intend on showing the nihilism of society as a whole by completely ignoring common uses of musical production, and using tropes of popular culture to prove how little of worth it has
>they resort to using looped samples and other means to show the pointlessness of the manufactured industry that has propped itself up in popular culture
>people not "in" on this, begin listening, and somehow think that this is worthwhile
>the genre got immediately dumbed down to neo-80s enjoyment. this is the case due to the fact that popular culture in isolated cases has inherited this style of 80s enjoyment
>shitty memes prop this up to a mainstream level, which not only embarrasses any original message, but completely makes it a part of the "system"
>the industry starts pumping out basically a zombified version of whatever vaporwave was supposed to represent
