i don't understand why, but college relationships in which guys get emotionally abused by fucked-up insane women who manipulate them with suicide threats and self-harm are way too fucking common. I was in one. This album is about exactly that scenario and presented it in probably the only way I could have got any therapeutic benefit from. I really, really needed it.
Also I first heard these songs live, which made them even more powerful. Before the record even came out I opened for the Antlers in a mostly-empty dive bar when they were touring behind ITAOTU. Pretty surreal coincidence really.
