Actually, I know exactly what they meant.

One of the interesting things about Grimes's persona is that she has managed to project such a strong sense of public identity for herself while also keeping certain aspects (such as her sexuality.) It makes it really easy for people to read whatever it is they want to see into the blank spots of her identity. By remaining ambiguous about things, people are able to project their own needs/desires/traits on her and pretend that those projections are reality. It's the same sort of stuff people used to do with David Bowie desu.

I know it might be weird for me to be sincere, but I just wanted to say that I'm genuinely happy (not in a sappy way, just feeling content) that you guys introduced me to Claire's music. Just last year, I had this impression that you guys were just weird in a way I may never understand, but now I realize you guys are mostly just nice people who might be a little lonely and listen to Grimes to feel comfier. I'm no exception. Of course, I could be wrong about you guys, but that's what you guys seem like to me.

I love the feeling of being in another world, perhaps a more cyberpunk or biopunk atmosphere where daily life feels like an adventure during the day and tons of designer drugs are peddled at night. Maybe that's just me, but knowing that Claire experimented with drugs, it makes me feel like less of a loner and more part of a collective of outcasts who find their own ways to be happy.

I hope Claire knows that her fans really appreciate her for mustering up the courage to start making music despite how she didn't know much about it at first. Even though I grew up learning multiple instruments, I feel that her music inspires me harmonically and rhythmically. Sometimes I sing and whistle harmonies over her melodies and the feeling is like nothing else. And as Claire pointed out, dancing is also a big part of what makes her music so enjoyable. I think there's sincere beauty in that.

Maybe I sound wacko at this point. I'm 22 years old, living on my own on the east coast of the US. I work retail and I play music with strangers sometimes. I'm not sure if that makes me seem more human, but whatevs.

I think she had a very cool aesthetic in her earlier work. Her newer stuff she's clearly got into the production more and refined her techniques, but I think in the past she took a lot of risks. The newer stuff feels more safe and almost has a mainstream sound to it.

6 years might be sufficient time for an artist better than David Bowie to establish his or herself (I'm a Bowie fan, but it took him 7 YEARS just to establish himself with Space Oddity. In contrast, Grimes' establishing record Visions came out just 1-2 years after her professional start.) But that's not nearly long enough to properly judge an artist's entire legacy - which is what we are going on about here.
