Busta still makes music and is still popular. He just doesn't trend on radio because that is for shit artists like Drake, Future, Chris Brown, Lil - whatever it is this week, and the other league of infinitely shitty rappers. He makes the music he actually was popular for now. had a very successful string of mix tapes with Q-Tip. Busta, is still THAT dude. He comes in and people immediately give respect. He's like Lupe Fiasco, he puts out music to remind you who don't actually care he's still around but makes the music people who do care want to hear the rest of the time.

Here's the funny part. Most of those "fans" didn't even like the Stones or listen to them back in the day, but since the 90s the band became this kind of cartoonish symbol of 60s-70s rock, and you'd have autists going to their shows and bullshitting about how this was their 20th Stones concert and how they still had their original pressing of Sticky Fingers they bought on release day in 1971.

My dad said a lot of people didn't like the Stones back then, thought they were overrated as fuck and couldn't play for shit. I mean, I guess if you're a metal guy and prefer those tight, overdriven Cream/Sabbath/Zeppelin riffs, you wouldn't care for them.

The Stones always had a bit of a gentrified upper middle class fanbase, which is one reason they've always been critical darlings. Unlike bands like Grand Funk Railroad who had greaseball fans who became auto mechanics or something.

Do rock has-beens need to work jobs nowadays to stay afloat? Like, I can imagine rappers/pop stars being able to survive off investments because it was just a one man show (excluding managers, producers, etc.) - but what about, for example, the Incubus bois? Even when they were on top of the world, that cash was being split amongst them.

Also do you guys think post-social media one-hit wonders will find it way easier to remain somewhat relevant? Seems like pre-web 2.0 if you fizzled out you were just done. Whereas now, if you amass those twitter/facebook/insta/snap followers, who knows how long you can stretch out your fame and fortune.

I always wonder about that.
The Unseen came into 7-11 while I was working about a decade ago. Just dressed like regular guys, I happened to recognize the name.
What do bands like that do when they aren't touring? They def don't make enough money to just not do anything.
>>

So i was curious as to what she was up to, so I checked her spotify recently

she turned into a 5th rate Carrie Underwood nashville hack. it's fucking terrible

90's Sheryl Crow would be so disappointed

It's funny because a couple of big name artists performed at his first inauguration in 2001, even after the controversy surrounding the 2000 election, everyone was willing to give the poor guy a chance as president. There wasn't (at that point anyway) the extreme rage and butthurt we've seen directed at Trump since before he was even inaugurated.

David Usher was great. Check out Moist if you haven't the band he led before he went solo.

Drake's already cemented his legacy in Pop culture, he'll never be forgotten

I could see this thread being about The Chainsmokers, Halsey, Meghan Trainor, Charlie Puth, Lorde-Daya-Alessia Cara-type singers, Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco, Ed Sheeran, Katy Perry, Lil Yachty, Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug, Desiigner, Meek Mill, Fifth Harmony, Wiz Khalifa, and a bunch more
>>
>>72277481
Nevermind, Katy Perry, Fall Out Boy, and Panic! pretty much have their own places in Pop Culture as well, they probably won't be forgotten anytime soon either, probably won't be making relevant music if making music at all, but they have already made their marks
>>
>>72275570

The original was my favorite Black Eyed Peas song, and pretty much their only hit song with a decent theme.
They just shit all over the song's legacy with this. I'm glad DJ Khaled was there to destroy the pretentious pretending-to-care mood of it all by memeing it up.

Real talk though: Dude has a pretty dedicated fanbase, and tons of money to kinda just do whatever he wants. He did a side project of ambient music that was released under a different name that ended up pretty well. And he just decided to do a year where he released a spec score every month for a year and release them for free, and they were all pretty decent.

He's not a radio guy anymore, but I doubt he cares. He always seemed more comfortable as a dude from Myspace anyway.

The last time Ke$ha was relevant was on Timber (guilty pleasure song of mine): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHUbLv4ThOo

And the last time Ne-Yo was relevant was on Time of Our Lives (unironically good Pop song): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTXJQ5ql5Fw

I saw him play live in 2015. It was from his new-ish solo album "Hesitant Alien", and he also did some songs from MCR. It was pretty good, and I was never really a big MCR fan.

Dude writes comics now for DC, and they're pretty good.
>>
>>72276538
I actually really liked his first 3 albums (Curbside Prophet, Mr. A-Z, We sing/dance/steal), but you could tell that he just got lazy and formulaic with some of the stuff on the third album.

He stopped doing clever lyrics, or his interesting flow and fast singing, or weird opera bridges. He just because a shittier Jack Johnson. It just felt super lazy.
