Any Fusion fans here? Cause RIP Allan Holdsworth

Why exactly did he prefer headless guitars so much?
>>72272127
I've been getting into fusion quite a bit recently. Here's my top 10 so far, any recs?

I can dig it. Recently been listening to Bill Bruford's Earhtworks, Ronald Shannon Jackson, and David Fiuczynski. Personally, Weather Report is an absolute staple and easily one of my favorite bands of all time
>>72273611
Apparently it helps keep the guitar balanced while playing, according to him
>>72274218
This. And probably because they were lighter, which is good if you gig'd as much as he did. Still can't believe he's gone. RIP Holdsworh.
Some stuff but a lot of it is extremely cheesy.
Holy fuck he died? I've been meaning to get around to him, shit. What's a good starting point, I think I'll finally listen to him tonight.

The albums "Feels good to me" and "One of a kind" by Bill Bruford are a good place to start. But you can start anywhere really. I started with IOU.
Sucks that he's gone. It seemed like he faded quickly after he hit 60. And from the beginning I knew that Tales from the Vault project had no chance of completing before his death.

I think AH is a better live musician than a studio one, so I'd try All Night Wrong first; the interaction between Allan and his drummer is really amazing. Then work your way back to Sixteen Men of Tain (probably his best studio album), then Wardenclyffe Tower, Metal Fatigue, and Road Games. Fill in the gaps in between those albums depending on what interests you.

Is his guitar ran through a synthesizer or what?

It's the Roland VG8.
>>72275765
It's the VG8 system.
You can hear it in contrast to the solo at the end.

Jon Hiseman's Colosseum II, featuring the ferocious playing of a young Gary Moore and Don Airey. Kind of Britain's answer to Return to Forever.

Also Gary Moore's first true solo album, Back on the Streets, is half proggy jazz fusion that's basically more Colosseum II but with Simon Phillips on drums.

>starting to get more and more into fusion
>look up specific musicians
>half of them died within the last few years

But the album is available. There is no new material sadly. Just his older songs recorded with different musicians he's played with.

>Some stuff but a lot of it is extremely cheesy.
I wouldn't say a lot of it is cheesy, given that the majority of his music is instrumental.

It was sad that Alphonse Mouzon's death last year got practically no mention at all, even in the music media at-large. His Mind Transplant album with Lee Ritenour and Tommy Bolin is one of the classics of the genre.
>>72275765
Another great album, which features a totally different sound and an acoustic guitar track from the man himself.
>>72275161
Start with Wardenclyffe Tower.
This is his most patrician album, I've never met any holdsworth fan irl that has listened to it.
>>72278696
Oh. I've got it on cd. One of my favourites is At the Edge. Holdsworth is maybe not the best singer but he's good none the less. Indeed a good album.
