No. Modern metal's downfall is that everything's overproduced, overtly processed sounding (or too intentionally shit sounding in regards to dime store basement black metal bands) and needlessly technical for the sake of being technical.

I like my metal to have some rawness, a sliver of sloppiness and an overall passion to the craft of brutality or mosh anthems.

Yall are retarded. There's more underground metal now than there's ever been. OPs either talking about scene fags like Suicide Silence or hipster metal like Deafheaven. I don't really care which. There are great crust bands like Sarabante, Tragedy, Jungbluth, and From Ashes Rise. There are great grind groups like Rotten Sound. And, in case you guys forgot, one of the biggest bands on the planet right now is the blackened death group Behemoth. But keep fucking whining.

The true downfall of modern metal is simply that barely any bands can write a compelling, cohesive track anymore. It's mostly a few riffs slapped together with no order to them.
